End of the Week Stats Q&A
« on: February 12, 2004, 12:53:22 PM »
The clasic argument has been about the F4U-1C and the F4U-4 being included in the late war PTO maps vs the Ki-61, 67, George, A6M5b.

As you can see not many guys flew the A6M5b due to the fact that there was "nothing" for it to eqaul to in a fight namely the F4F. You can see that when it did fly, CAP im sure, it fared equal to the Corsairs both -4 and C-Hog.

The Ki-67 has always been a pain for the allies. We seldom have anything that can catch it and have the speed and power to make other than deadly 6 attacks. As you can see the C-hog, with its 20mm cannons, make a difference but not by much over the -4. Nevertheless, Ki-67s suffered only two to one losses. Thats only fair. The B-17 did worse against the Ki-67 and the N1K2J at a one to one loss.

Well well well, look at the F4U-1C and F4U-4 stats vs the N1K2J.
We always get the F4U-1D vs the George. In Dec 02 the F4U-1D had 364 Kills of N1K2 and the N1K2 had 569 Kills of F4U-1D.  That was a 200 kill difference in favor of the George. Pretty uneven in my book. This week the C-Hog and -4 were an even match at one to one losses vs the George. The P-51D was squished by the George with over two to one losses.

The F6F was squished as well, with to to one losses. Vs the Ki-61, the fights were equal with one to one losses.

F4U-1D has 98 Kills of Ki-67
Ki-67 has 43 Kills of F4U-1D

B-17G has 17 Kills of Ki-61
Ki-61 has 16 Kills of B-17G

B-17G has 70 Kills of N1K2
N1K2 has 80 Kills of B-17G

B-17G has 0 Kills of Ship Gunner
Ship Gunner has 39 Kills of B-17G

Ki-67 has 0 Kills of Ship Gunner
Ship Gunner has 198 Kills of Ki-67

A6M5b has 41 Kills of F4U-1C
F4U-1C has 55 Kills of A6M5b

A6M5b has 41 Kills of F4U-1C
F4U-1C has 55 Kills of A6M5b

A6M5b has 26 Kills of F6F-5
F6F-5 has 28 Kills of A6M5b

Ki-67 has 60 Kills of F4U-1C
F4U-1C has 131 Kills of Ki-67

Ki-67 has 67 Kills of F4U-4
F4U-4 has 92 Kills of Ki-67

N1K2 has 301 Kills of F4U-4
F4U-4 has 255 Kills of N1K2

N1K2 has 330 Kills of F4U-1C
F4U-1C has 322 Kills of N1K2

N1K2 has 171 Kills of P-51D
P-51D has 58 Kills of N1K2

F4U-1D has 364 Kills of N1K2
N1K2 has 569 Kills of F4U-1D

N1K2 has 250 Kills of F6F-5
F6F-5 has 146 Kills of N1K2

Ki-61 has 27 Kills of F6F-5
F6F-5 has 28 Kills of Ki-61

You must ask yourself how this game is being played for the stats to come out this way. I already said it. The CT is mostly a furballing arena with a twist of base capture. When you furball, eventually you will kill then be killed no matter what you fly as long as there is a steady stream of planes from opposite directions meeting in the middle. I call this result  "Hamsterwheeling".

I know most of my keels in the 262 are on the F6F and F4U's of various types because of the poor rearward view, in addition to the greater numbers of them flying. I can sneak up on them from the rear and most never see me, while P51's, P47's, P38's Temps and Spit's can see much better and so rarely do I sneak up on them.

more stats:

F4U-4 has 247 Kills of N1K2
N1K2 has 282 Kills of F4U-4

F4U-4 has 57 Kills of A6M5b
A6M5b has 28 Kills of F4U-4

Seems to me that the F4U-1C v N1K2 & F4U-4 v N1K2
is about even but the in the  F4U-4 v A6M5b fight the A6M5b is slightly outclassed

The A6M5B is totally outclassed by the F4U-4

The only reason a A6M can shoot down a F4U-4 is if the Hog pilot puts himself in a position to be shot down.... with the speed and power advantage of teh F4U-4 he can totally dictate the terms of the fight.

True, but the stats show that the Hog pilots choose to slow down and fight the furball fight therefore voiding the "keep the Chog and B-17 out of the CT late war PTO, its uneven" qote seen so many time by sveral CMs.

The F4U-1C should be in the setups where it makes sense for it to be. I think it should be up to the designer, I can see setups where its left out, and I can see reasons to include it.

...but lets get away from these blanket policies of picking on plane x or y and declaring it "unusable". We have setups that have the 540mph Me262, so I hardly think it makes sense to single out a prop plane to be a CT hanger queen?

Personally,

I think that the "late war" PTO set ups are kind of stale since the INS plane set is so limited...having the various "uber hogs" doesn't really address the core issue but doesn't harm anything either...when (if) the Ki-84 or other additions come out then the whole play balance will shift. I'd put the -4 on 1 carrier and the -C on another...if the riceballs (no slander intended) don't like em we/they can take em out.

I agree, once we get the Ki84 the 1C and -4 Hogs wont be so Uber anymore, and there will be less (no?) need for the jets. This was a way to compromise and give the allies the Uber-Hogs without butchering the Axis.

I know some hated the 262 and 163, but without them almost nobody would have flown Axis this week. By that, I dont mean everybody flew the jets, quite a few told me they didnt bother while thats all I flew save for a few base defence sorties. Having the jets forced the allied planes out of a strictly BnZ mode otherwise all of the allied planes would have been able do dictate all engagements. So what made the set more even was not the direct lethality of the jets, but rather the way they forced the allied BnZ planes to modify their tactics. Hard to loiter around above a bunch of lower, slower IJA/IJN planes like shooting fish in a barrel when there might be a 262 or 163 stalking you. :)

Even with the jets there were several times when the numbers were way off. Last night at one point it was 47 vs 12, granted the 78th, 325th, and CAG-44 were all doing a joint mission, but still you get the idea. It would have been like that all week without the jets IMO.

Nope, they should be available at as many bases as is the Ki-67.
