Is it possible to fly along (in say a B-17) as a gunner/bombardier, while someone else is piloting?
What's the method, and more importantly, etiquette for this?
Seems like a good way to meet people and learn some of the nuances of flying the buffs.

The dot command is: .join

The ediquite is... well, don't join uninvited and/or unannounced. The best way to join with people strange to you, is to simply ask "anyone need a gunner?" A lot of times you wont get a reply, since people are busy doing there thing, but sometimes you will.

Just make sure you don't .join to anyone who isn't expecting it. It will toss a text box in the view giving them the choice to accept your or decline you. Its a very rude surprise

This works for Gunner positions, or just observer positions. Bombadier functions are always handled by the pilot

For a good time, try flying B-17s on intercept missions, with a gunner. Its like Nelson at Trafalgar.

Used to be a lot of fun in Air Warrior where several people could crew a B-17 in all the different gunner positions simultaneously.

I'm sure you remember the "reverse fighter escort death star" missions.

What better way to cap off a squad night?

Kinda miss the death star days...especially when Jase or dead (levi) was piloting the bird...all they really needed was a guy in the chin...kind of embarrassing getting swatted by a 17 in a knife fight:)

Actually, it was usually the guy in the upper turret gun that had all the fun. I could pull into lag pursuit on a bandit and the upper turret gunner would have a field day. Since the turret also enjoyed a greater range of motion than the chin gun, it was a prime spot for racking up Death Star kills.

Ah, I remember the AW bomber death stars. Over in the FR arena, we used to pile a bunch of squadies into the Mitchell and head out over Macho Grande mountains and the center lake to see how many enemy fighters would come out to play. I would call "All guns forward" and chase enemy fighters around.

I can remember you "flipping" the 17 around almost like the 38...seemed like the damm thing was tumbling around at 80 knt's on full flaps...always seemed like it was the chin that got me...but could of well been the top turret.

Not sure you'd be able to view it unless you actually had that version of AW loaded and setup.
