Pay special attention to the rear-most control surfaces. Very interesting indeed. They claim it can take down other AA missiles.

I can answer that one, when your fighting tool is cheap enough and available in enough quantity that you don't need to maneuver.

Example, you have an unmanned aerial fighting drone.  You can spend $10,000 for a simple fighter drone that does nothing but carry a next-gen AMRAAM into a furball or you can spend $500,000 for an advanced fighting drone that has the capabillity of pulling 20g turns, dropping chaff & flares, and some sort of ECM suite.

Evasive maneuvers are obsolete when you're faced with this purchasing decision, because if you can send 10 or 20 sacrificial drones in to swamp their defenses, it's still cheaper then building a super drone.

It was just a question. No need to take it personally.

believe it or not chairboy is pretty close to the truth here....just off a bit on price.  The F22 and F35 are going to be the LAST manned fighter vehicles ever procured by the USAF.  The concept of aerial battles is going to switch to unmanned drones that can pull 20 gs and do Mach 4 with ease.  Most planes nowadays are only limited to what their pilot can take.

That missle kicks bellybutton in LOMAC.  Unfortunately only the MiG-29S can carry it.

It sounds like all they would have to do is drop a jammer in a chute.

Quote
host radar system maintains computed target information in case the target breaks the missile's lock-on. If the seeker is jammed, it switches automatically to a passive mode and homes on the source of jamming.

There are a couple of weapons systems that I wonder if they are practical.

1.  A drone with a turbojet (something like a tomahawk) that carries one or two missiles and can fly as part of an AWACs controlled squadron during air invasions.

or.....

2.  A modified B-52 or 7X7 airframe with a revolver style air to air missile launcher.  I imagine it would either be mounted inside or get targeting from an AWACs and would be able to fly into a warzone, engaging 50-100 aircraft in less then a minute, or even providing protection against SAMs and long range air to air missiles.  Get target data, program missile, eject missile from launcher, missile engine ignites and vectors to target.  Rotate launcher to expose the next round, then repeat.

Alot of fiction writers write about these "gunships" as a good possability.  I'm realy partial to Dale Browns books on the "dreamland" A/C

Seems like that BUFF would be heavily exposed to some of the larger SAMs.......
