raise the pilots seat (and the pilot)
« on: February 15, 2004, 02:28:38 AM »
every picture Ive ever seen of fighter planes and the pilots in them (in flight) shows they have jacked their seat up as high as it will go.

this trend is further verified by the natural tendancy of players to jack their own virtual seats up to get a better view.

further. putting the pilots eye level with the gunsight is an incorrect position for a pilot sitting straight up because at this level if they leaned forward to view through the gunsight the eye level would pass below the sight.

p51, p47 p38 you always see the pilots head quite near the top of the canopy.

raising the seat would be nice, even though its fine where it is right now imo.

Every U.S. fighter was fitted with seats that adjusted up/down and fore/aft. You can imagine that this was necessary due to the wide difference in height among pilots. One size didn't fit all. Seat height adjustment was mandated for all USN fighters in the early 1930s to provide for the best possible view of the carrier deck.

corsairs had like a foot of adjustment.   Only problem I could see is..... How would AH model it?   If you were flying around with your eye level above the sight.... there would have to be a "croutch" or "hunker down" command when yu used the sights huh?

for ace and lazs... in the slight off chance you didn't know... you *can* "raise" your seat to get a better view by adjusting your head position.

some people do exactly that lazs, by having their view set up high (and losing the gunsight) and mapping another key or button to a lower view for firing with the gunsight in view.

lazs.. if you're still using the HTC default views, it'd go a long way in explaining your reluctance to do 1 v1's. :D

I already use that.  "8" key on the numpad.  It moves my virtual head closer to the gunsight and up a small tad for better clearance over the nose.

Heh, I didn't even know you could zoom the bomb site (or anything else for that matter), for the first six months I flew AH.  And it wasn't until the first con that I knew you could 'set' your view positions, although I managed to stumble across the movement keys.  RTFM, wha?

shane.. I use the adjustable views but you can't have one view that is way above the sight and then hit a button to scrunch down and look through the sight so mostly your fron view is limited by the sight.  u guys don't fly around with no sight...  I have a forward up view but if you adjust the seat in your normal view you lose the sight.

shane..  I fight one vs 1 all the time... I have fought you one vs 1 plenty of times...  I just don't go to a seperate arena to do it.   neither one of us is very good as I recall anyway... bout 50/50 on the results.

my normal front view is through the sights... you can only raise the seat so far and then you lose the sight.  my front/up view is just that.

some people map a seperate button/key to toggle to that "scrunched down look thru gunsight" view.
