Why not just make a bigger sight  and in the front view, push the seat all the way back. It makes the view less restricted, and it doesn't change the size of the planes you're shooting at. All it does is make the instruments and gunsight smaller. Bigger gunsight (or bigger dot in gunsight) makes that less of a disadvantage.

lazs hold down the look forward key (numberpad 8) move the view all the way forward while holding down the key,

hit f10

you now have 2 forward view positions 1 gunsight view 1 normal position view (which i set to max height, i set gunsight view to the forward view key which i have mapped on my joystick)

hold down forward and left forward quarter numberpad  7 & 8 keys

move view all the way left and a bit forward hit f10

now hit the forward look button and the left forward quarter keys.

you now have an instant forward view that simulated the pilot moving their head to the side to view around canopy bracing or look down the side of the fuselage.

the permutations of this are quite extensive and by simply mapping the forward look key to your joystick you have a whole new set of view positions in addition to your normal views.

not many know about this. I found it by accident when messing with views long ago.

thanks fester.. I see what you mean.   I have all my hat views set for best views but by using the 8 key you do get another set of views that can be set for highest head position looking forward...  looking back is not a problem since you set those for best view anyway with no gunsite to worry about.    So now I have three forward views instead of two.   Not sure how much I will use the other one but thanks.

I have a button (dogfight switch on the Cougar) to switch to my gunsight view.  As I get ready to fire, I flip the switch and it uses the gunsight view in place of the normal forward view.

Some other ideas:

Use one of the forward views for a heads-up view above the hatch in the tank driver position.

In buffs with no gunsite, I use one view that lowers the head position to see all the insturments.

In case you guys don't know, you can have something like 6 saved forward views, Home (no view keys pressed) and then 5 other saved ones made with a combination of view views pressed. I use a Cougar, and get all of these (plus every other possible view in all directions) by using 1 hat and the shift key

These are the keypad buttons to get each, and a description of where I saved my head position for each one.

{LOOK_UP LOOK_FWD LOOK_BACK} (5,8,2) - Look forward over the nose centered

{LOOK_FWD LOOK_BACK} (8,2) - Look forward close to the gunsight

{LOOK_DOWN LOOK_UP} (0,5) - Look forward sitting back (Wide View)

{LOOK_FL LOOK_BACK} (7,2) - Look forward over the nose on the left

{LOOK_FR LOOK_BACK} (9,2) - Look forward over the nose on the right

If you want, I can send you my view setting section from my Cougar, or the whole thing. The way mine really works is with the "Coolie" hat and the dogfight switch. The Shift "Pinkie" is used for the shifted forward views.

With dogfight in center position, coolie looks in all directions around the aircraft, level.

With dogfight in up position, coolie looks in all directions around the aircraft 'high'

With dogfight in down position, coolie looks in all directions around the aircraft 'low'

Map one of your joystick buttons (or just use) the Home Button.  Save forward view to however high u want it and then when you want to fire hit the home key or remapped joystick button. It will magically superdooperally move you to gunsight view.

I dont use it but i cant see why it shouldnt work for those that want to do it?
