Any Home Networking Gurus here?
« on: February 15, 2004, 02:37:30 PM »
Ive got a problem, Me and my girlfriend have a little home network, two computers and a printer. My computer is the host and I run Windows XP home, and hers is Windows Me.

Ive had no problems, at all, what so ever until about a month ago. One day She tries to pull some files off of my computer and she cant reach my folder. I try to fool around with it, and it seems to work only when it wants too. Now today, I sit down and try to get this puppy working again. So I run the Network Wizard and go through the process.

It works, but now it likes to disconnect and reconnect every couple minutes. Any Ideas on what could be my network woes?
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I have a Linksys wireless router, and a Linksys wireless USB access point.  When the phone is picked up, I am frequently disconnected.  Any idea how to solve this?

(I've changed the channels several times)

This network has successfully ran for over a year and a half...

I dont beleive it has anything to do with the systems.

See if power management is turning the network card off.

Control panel - system - hardware - device manager - double click your network card - power management tab - remove tick from "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Unfourtunately there are a lot of other things that could be causing it.

WinXP requires an actual login for shared files/printers whereas the older versions of win will hand them up for anyone once shared. Had the same problem for a while until I ended up converting everything over to XP for simplicity.

It seems like it disconnects and comes right back on.  It seems to be working a lot better now though.

Thanks for all the info guys, and Nashwan I went into my DM and disabled the computer allowing to turn it off. Hopefully this was the fix.

Hiya Nefarious - off topic here but how are things at work these days. Are you still at Froggy's?  Sorry I never made it in while you were working...

Do you have the provided filter between the phone and wall jack?
