Dweeb Questions
« on: February 18, 2004, 09:18:01 AM »
I'm new so I suck. I'm wondering what are good planes for a beginner. Lots of folks suggest the Spit. But I don't really like the plane. I've always liked the German planes. So I'm wondering which of the 109 and 190 variants are the easiest to fly.

I notice if I'm on a Flak gun I don't get credit for any kills. Is this by design? Just wondered.

What's the best (or best 2 or 3) websites out there that have good AH info? If anyone can help with any of this I appreciate it.

Easiest LW plane to fly would probably be a 109 varient.  G10 is the most powerful while some of the F series are better turners.  Stay away from hte gondolas if you are looking for performance.  For 190s, try the D9 or when you get some perks fly the Ta152.  It's only a matter of time before a JB post here.  They'll tell you what's best.

For Web sites, check out netaces.org  or Soda has a good web site describing AH planes specifically.  If someone has the url please post, or you could probably find a link by searching this BBS.

If you're on an airfield flack gun you will get credit for the kill however I do not believe they help your score or rank at all.

Fw190a5 is the most fun LW aircraft.  Second would maybe be the 109g2.

Listen to Furious...and don't worry about what's easy.  Just pick one and stick with it for a while.  The longer you fly it, the easier it will be to get kills in it.

What Furious said.

The 109g2 and 190a5 are both good blends of turning ability and speed.  The 190a5 is a bit of a handful at low speeds in a turnfight, and the 109g2 is a handful at very high speeds.

Both planes require a good deal of ACM knowledge, as the usual point the nose at the target and pull on the stick approach will not work.  They're both decent turners, but can't compete with the spits and n1k's you'll see in the MA.  Even the LA7 will give you a run for your money in the turning department.

I'd recommend reading these threads by Urchin (an excellent pilot with a knack for the LW planes)

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70815&highlight=primer

Also, for a description of the planes in AH: http://www.telusplanet.net/~dsoder/models.htm

Personally, I'd recommend getting the basics of the game down first.  I learned AH in a Spit 9, then switched to the LW rides (what I really wanted to fly) when I had a decent handle on ACM and gunnery.  Gunnery in the LW planes is very important, since much of the time you'll only have snapshots.

Good luck.  Look me up in the MA if you'd like some more pointers.  :)

Good advice.  Fly something that is more "carefree" in handling so you can focus on all the more important things (like Situational Awareness, Energy Management, Turn-Concepts, etc) while you learn.  Don't set your initial expectations too high either, many people in AH have thousands of hours of experience so you can't hope to be as good with only a couple of hundred hours when you first start.  Read the Help section of this BBS and drop by the Training Arena when you have time. You can also email the trainer corps who can meet you and help you out (trainers@hitechcreations.com) or you can send me a note at soda@hitechcreations.com and we can just talk about where to start.

There is a lot to know in AH but you can only really absorb it a piece at a time. Sometimes just getting a couple of new concepts to consider, and see them implemented while riding along with someone else, can open vast new areas of knowledge and understanding.

I learned AH in 109g2 with gondolas, 205 would work as well.

there is a spit dweeb and me we started same time, he flew niks I flew g2. 2 years later we meet, me in 110 him in temp. I kicked his arse so hard he called hack. learn basics in in 109g2,P42d25,205 or P51b, THEN fly spitv and you'll be a babyseal killer, and since 95%  of the unwashed masses in the MA fly spitniklalas since n00b times they easy kills.

The 190a8 to me seems to be the best of both worlds it turns well and also BnZ's fairly decent.

[Edit] Above was 190A5 not 190A8

109G10 is a fast plane but doesn't  turn well at all,  109g6 does a good job of turning but don't let it get to slow.

202's and 205's are just plain fun but with the limited fuel range  don't venture out to far.

Hope that helps you a little i'm sure some of the more experianced LW pilots will  give you some great advice  as soon as they see this post.

Good Luck,

ok another JB chiming in....

learn to handle the 109F4 (great turner and decent speed)

stay away from the 190G6 and G2 until you have more stick time.

the 109E4 is the best turner but slow as a snail and wimpy guns.

the 190G10 is a hot rod but can get you into real trouble quick.

for 190's start with the 190A5 its the easiest of the 190's to fly and handle. it will give you a good idea of what the 190's as a whole can do.

the 190A8 has huge guns but an aircraft carries can out manuever it.

the 190D is fast as all git out overall the best, but diffucult to learn to handle well. stalls and snaps over real easy

the 190F8 has almost no place in the MA. slow, so-so guns and zero manueverability.

oh well my 2¢

mentioned above... the C.205 is axis (italian and some german squads used them) i personally learned to fly with it. it's not easy but a REAL blast if you get the hang of it.

the C.202 is another usless plane unless you have skill and want a REAL challenge (lightest gun load in all of planes in AH)

I don't really know much about LW planes, bit of a spit dweeb really.:)   I flew the 109g2 a bit for the past couple of tours- it's a nice little plane i enjoyed flying it.  It's only bad point is it's lack of firepower.  I even got given compliments on my 109 flying by several Luftweenies.:D

Lead pump go read some of the articles @ the link furious posted.  It has lots of valuble info to learn how to fight.
"Willy's gone and made another,
Something like it's elder brother-
Wing tips rounded, spinner's bigger.
Unbraced tailplane ends it's figure.
One-O-nine F is it's name-
F is for futile, not for fame."

Thanks for the help eveyone! I'm a refuge from the old Air Warrior days. Back then I liked the 109 because people didn't hassle ya as much in one of those like they gave ya grief over flying the spit. :) My only complaint with it then was it had an ammo supply that would fit in a coffee can. But you get use to it. I used that for "turn fighting".

Then, at the time, for chasing down bombers and the whole "boom and zoom" thing (which I like also) we pretty much had the P51 and the 190. I just liked the 190 better between the two. But anyway, now I'm used to flying those. In the sense that it wouldn't feel right to climb into something else.

I haven't played any flying games in years so I'll just fly what I like and take my lumps until I catch on again. :) I actual own (and studied, lol) Shaw's book and was really into this stuff at one time, hopefully it'll come back to me over time.
