Due to his injuries from the ATV incident.

CNN

Poor guy. Ozzfest was the only thing that kept him going.  He may decline rapidly now...  :(

Exactly.  The guy was a vegetable even before the accident.

If he stops using drugs, he might live long enough to make another comeback.

You know as funny as some of those episodes were, watching the guy walk around was pretty pathetic.  He can't talk, waddles around the house like a 70 year old and is constantly pickled with something in his system.

Retiring?  Fine.  But from what?

I heard or read somewhere, I can't remember where, that they are sueing his shrinks because they had him all drugged out.  That's why he couldn't walk or talk right on the show.  Pretty sad,  I don't see him on Earth very long if he can't tour. :(

He was definitely on something.  My understanding is that he was drinking a lot too.

Ozzy has been sober for many years. Of course, that's after many years of intense drug use & drinking. He's been the way he is for a long time, but seems to become 'normal' (as far as talking) when onstage. I've been to 5 ozzy shows and (with the exception of 2002 ozzfest) has always been phenomenal.....So I suppose he wont be able to sit in his water cannon this year is the only drawback I see.......
Supposed to be a great lineup too, Slipknot, Slayer......Guess I'll have to wait n see!

Actually on the MTV show he was drinking and drunk several times.  This is in addition to the prescription drug addictions (tranquilizers, painkillers, amphetemines).

I believed he relapsed after his wife was diagnosed with cancer.

Despite his demons, I'm pulling for him.  Always liked the guy.
