Columbus Ohio?
« on: February 19, 2004, 07:57:48 PM »
I am contemplating a move to Columbus Ohio and looking for suggestion and comments from anyone living there.

If I accept the position I have been offered, I will work at the airport.  (east side obviously)

I am interested in finding a nice place, preferably slightly out of town, maybe 20 miles or so.  Flew there on Tuesday to look around, checked out mostly east, went maybe 30 miles out.  Nothing  written in stone, would consider closer or farther for the right place.  Would lbe interested in a place on a few acres if I can find the right place.

What is is like northeast or north?  Any suggestions about areas to check that direction or east?

Looked at the Canal Winchester area, seemed nice, but maybe getting too crowded to fast.

Anything that might be offered about the Columbus area, things to do, go, avoid etc would be welcome.

thank

in the 'things to avoid' catagory.

(CNN) -- Gunfire struck an SUV east of Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday in a shooting that appears linked to a spate of others nearby and is another sign that the shooter may be becoming bolder, police said.

the sniper is still out there. just be aware of that.

I have been to Columbus several times and found  NOTHING worth moving there. Bad economy, high crime, generally a run down city. It barely beats Gary, Ind.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Since I grew up in the city right next to Gary IN, I guess I won't let that deter me.  :)

Also,  I have been there so I know that isn't true.  :)

I live in Columbus, and as in any medium to big city,it's where you live.

What do you mean by "bad economy"?Jobs are plenty, and housing is reasonable. And what do you mean by run down?Westerville,Gahanna,Dublin,Hilliard etc,are fine places to live with good schools. There really are only a few places I wouldn't live in the city here.

Sorry to ruffle those Buckeye feathers:

City-data.com crime index = 711.5 (higher means more crime, US average = 330.6)
Unless there has been a MAJOR infrastructure program since I was last there, the roads are in pretty bad shape. Most of the city is old and looks it. I'm sure there are some nice neighborhoods around town. All in all I guess it's no worse than any other city in the Northeast...if that's where you like to live.
