Yes, American English. Adverbs are frowned upon. Those are the words which describe verbs and often end -ly. Words like really, badly, lazily, fruitfully, horrendously... Why they should be shunned in North America is anyone's guess. A goodnight wish here might be "Sleep well", in America "Sleep good". I was half surprised that the English teacher didn't say "you write real good".
