I think it all started with the Election Results that were split down the middle back in early BETA. As I seem to recall the Luftbeery Party and the Axis Alliance Reformists are still counting the original ballots as to which plane is the best. The Luftbeery Seniors claim the ballots was to hard to understand and the Axis Pilots wanted to rush have the Arena validate the P-51D was the finist machine in the air. Well, there you have it!...... we've been fighting ever since!

MaxQ: SOB's link will give you the screenplay as originally written. But there were some changes made before shooting.

This one(http://www.krug.org/scripts/fullmetal.html) has all the words as they appeared in the film as released.
