Welch's P-40B, December 7, 1941
« on: February 21, 2004, 08:10:19 PM »
2nd Lt. George Welch
15th Pursuit Group
47th Pursuit Squadron
Haleiwa Field, 12/07/41

2nd Lt.'s George Welch and Ken Taylor were two of the few that got airborne on December 7th, 1941, claiming 4 and 2 victories respectively.  Welch and Taylor received the DSC for their actions, and a recommendation for the Medal of Honor was squelched by a local commander, because they took off without orders ;).

I need to do some additional work on the fuselage, but this baby is almost ready for the Skins Department.  Any comments welcome :).

Well, that's my problem ;).  The under wing is mirrored in the skin, so what is on one side is also on the other :(.  So, I can either have "Army" on both sides, or the Star, but not both.

Try the both ARMY wings and see what happened?  I know that P-40 have ARMY sign under both left and right wing.

nm my post. looked at the p40b skin and there is not a seperate texture for country markings unlike some other planes.

Original messege was:

you can try putting army where the country markings go, so on one side you'll have the star and the other army. The placement won't bet that accurate, but you can have army underneath.

Very nice, Dawggus!  all I'd do is make the blue of the stars a little more noticeable.

You want to make a contemporary at the Philippines as well?  It would just be some minor changes to the fuselage.  If you're interested, email me and I'll shoot you some pics.

Thanks Oct and BH :).  It needs some additional work before submitting to HTC, but it's getting there!  BH, I'd like to see your Pics of a Philippines version, send them along at:

Any feedback is welcome, I'm trying to get better at this skinning stuff :).
