Interceptor Question
« on: February 22, 2004, 04:51:05 AM »
Stupid Noob questions...

I know everyone has been inthat situation where a group of bombers in inbound to your base at 10+k ALT and no one is in a position to get them.  Just wondering what you verteran guys around here would suggest.

Good plane(s) for climbing up to intercept incoming bombers?

Good plane(s) for surviving bomber's defensive fire?

Preferably non-perked planes, but feel free to add perked fighters too.

If it was me then I'd choose a Bf109 G10 which has good rate of climb and equipped with 30mm and gondolas has good firepower too.   Some may choose an La7 to intercept too purely for its speed.

As for good planes for surviving bombers defensive fire, well, there isn't one as such since it really comes down to what tactics you use to approach the buff formation.  Obviously planes with radiators are going to sustain more damage than a radial engined plane for example.

I preferr FWA8 with 30mms...If you can get ahead and turn in to them from the side you can take out a whole formation of buffs in 1 pass....Attacking from behind in b17's is suicide.

Get a heavy G10 with 30mm and 2 x 20mm gondola's and 50% fuel - climb to alt then get ahead of buffs.....make sinlge head on pass, get ahead, single pass till all dead - if however someone else is also attacking the buffs wait till the buff is firing at him then slip in and blast them......

Depends...

If it's a scramble intercept I'll take 109 G10 with 20MM and gonds...just hit e firewall it and hit wep.

If I'm already in the air i'd prefer to meet em in something like a typh or chog for obvious reasons :D

Nothing beats 110G-2 for buffs at low/med alt.  Took out 6 Lancasters in 1 HO pass not so long ago with it.  If you gotta climb then 109G-10 although for some reason i been having a lot of success in 109G-2 with gondies vs. 17's lately (yes, im talking to you BigGayBaldingMAW :D )
