As a service to the flight sim community, and especially online flight sim players, John "Wily " Mollison and Dogfighter.com will be offering accessible, copyright-free "blank " illustrations of major historical aircraft to the general public. Initially this will be a test trial to gauge reader response for the project.
These "blanks " will be profile-art and come fully rendered without squad, nationality or other personal markings. The purpose of the drawings is to offer virtual pilots a template from which to create personalised aircraft for display on web sites without their violating any copyright by scanning or otherwise using protected images. We not only encourage individuals to use the "blanks ", but virtual flight squadrons as well!
John "Wily " Mollison draws each aircraft in Macromedia Freehand and Adobe Photoshop. Each illustration is original and takes him two to three hours to complete. Each profile is original art and the creator has surrendered his copyright to Dogfighter.com for the purpose of providing players with templates for their own personal and non-commercial use.
If enough interest is demonstrated by the flight sim community for these free templates, it is the artist's intention to continually release new aircraft art so that a library of images could be developed over time.
