TEACHERS! From The Kansas City Star
Quote
“So far, all we hear is a lot of old bitterness and partisan anger. Anger is not an agenda for the future of America. " George W. Bush

Woops, Somebody forgot to tell his Cabinet to button their lip until after the election...
Quote
Bush's message came on the heels of controversial remarks by a member of his Cabinet, Rod Paige, the secretary of education.
In remarks to the nation's governors at the White House earlier in the day, Paige called the National Education Association, a longtime ally of the Democrats, a “terrorist organization” because it was resisting provisions of the education bill that Bush signed into law in 2001.

Just because they are fighting unfunded federal mandates they are terrorists. How about slipping some of that Halliburton cash towards the schools to pay for those mandates?

I certainly wouldn't call them terrorists. What federal mandates are the resisting/violating? Your link is pay, got another?

Poor choice of words and I'm sure he didn't really mean it. He does deserve to take some heat over it, however:

Meanwhile, Paige said he had made it clear to the governors that he was referring to the Washington-based union organization, not the teachers it represents.

You might want to actually read the links before posting. It is a federally UNFUNDED mandate. That means they have to pay for it out of their (the state's) own pocket--you know, the pockets that got cut last year to pay for the tax cut?

Well, I really don't see how letting a child pick a school is going to be an exceptional burden on the local tax payers. The kids are going to go to school somewhere right? Please explain why this should be funded federally. Don't shake yer head to hard, something might come loose.

Anyone with dealings with the NEA would know that, in fact, they are pretty damn close to a terrorist operation, only worse because they affect only our children.

Lets not forget what  John Kerry said in Jan. 1996, commenting on the federal government shutdown, Kerry called the House Republicans 'legislative terrorists,' who used federal workers as pawns and disrespected them. Asked about his terrorist comment, Kerry explained, 'Terrorists hold hostages, and the Republicans are holding the government hostage'.

Yep. We've lowered to the democrats' standards, haven't we rpm?

Rip, do you really want to bring up Newt as a defense to this? (waiting for that pitch across the center of the plate)

Teachers unions blow.

I know of a case of a tenured Teacher who missed over half his school year and could not be fired for it.

They suspect he had another job....

Maybe some unions are needed, but teachers unions are a bad joke and the kids pay for it.

If that (vouchers and the like) were the whole of the act, you might have a point to match the one on your head; however, there are at least a dozen other parts of the NCLB that are objectionable.

While I do not agree with all the points depicted on this website, it does do a passable job of dissecting the issues...
