Ok here is a ricer question.
« on: February 24, 2004, 04:20:09 PM »
Why is it every ricer with a fart can muffler is always gunning the throttle? Like in parking lots and stuff?

Are they trying to sound like a Drag car with a huge cam? You know what I mean say like an old 70 chevelle, with a bigblock and a big cam so it barely idles, so you have to gun it a bit to get it moving and keep it running?

They are doing this cause this is the in way to drive you winged dented honduh civic? Or did they do something to make it have not low end driveability?

I have noticed this much more of late, cause I have like 4 ricers sharing an apartment right above mine, so I get to here there crappy cars all the godamn time.

I have no damn idea,  but i do know what your saying,  as most of you have seen my car i do get alot of this.  If im sitting at a stop light i will get this Honda that will start revving his engine with that fart can in the back.  It's damn terribly annoying since i can wipe the floor with him,  but im not into street racing so i always give em a fliar to join me at a local track we have here.  Sadly nobody ever shows up..

So to answer your question partly,  i think its a misconception most Honda drivers have,  the Louder it is,  then the Faster it probebly goes!

With smaller engines, most of the usable power is higher in the revs.  A V8 might be able to smoke the tires at 1500 RPM, but a 4 cylinder car might need to start at 4-5k to have good acceleration.

If they're revving right before they go (eg, before they engage their clutch), it's to have a better holeshot.  If they're revving it randomly like a Harley (as if to keep it from stalling), then they are just idiots.

The same reason my generation used to jack cars up beyond the limit of leaf springs, put M50 tires on a 69 Charger with a 318 engine, and glass pack pipes.

My grandfather was a rum runner and at least the jacked up back has a purpose. It was done that way because when the car was loaded with rum it set normal, this was done so that police could not tell that the car was loaded with rum. It was a style that was started becauce of the rum runners in the 20's and it is still going on today.

As for "hey ya dumbas*, lets stick a coffe can on our tail pipes, because we wana look like f*in goofs, and never get laid" has no purpose at all

I'm a 91 Camaro owner with a 350 big block .......

They want to hear their fart can.  Somewhere between the tailpipe and the ricer's ear, the song of the fart can changes from a flatulent roar to a mellifluous burble.
A lot of them just run crappy because these guys add parts without knowing what they are doing and end up with fuel or ignition maps that don't match the other upgrades.
But some of them do have cams like the one you describe.  A 400 whp Civic is going to have a lumpy idle.  Those are super-rare, but they are out there.

In my case you will hear some revving because I do heel-toe double declutch downshifts most of the time, and because my car is really underpowered unless I get enough revs to make boost when coming off the line.

Funked,
I doubt these *******es have new cams.

I have heard them sit and idle and there is no lumpyness, smooth as a typical honda econo box.

I have respect for the guys who can make these things go fast, hell I work with a guy who did a home made turbo setup. Bought all the parts from Vic hubard! lol.  He took me for a ride in his honda and it was pretty quick...

But these jokers are all about cheap kragin crome and bull****....

Its the sound of performance, thats why.

Many of these kids have a rear mounted grapefruit thrower (thats a muffler) because it 'sounds good' and frees up 'hella horsepower.'

99 out of 100 dont even know what a cam does.

999 out of 1000 dont know what a cabourated engine sounds like either.

Its a safe bet they arent trying to imitate anything specific - aside from some of the fake blow off valve noise makers Ive seen.

Its loud, obnixious, and its a great way to show everyone during your morning drive to school how much of a hardass you really are.

I know this because my area is second only to LA county, as far as Im concerned, in ricers per capita.  And I mean bad ricers... the duct tape, unpainted, maybe primed if they are lucky with 50 stickers for products they dont have kind of ricers.

The kind of ricers that pull up to a real sports car and dont even have the good sense to stop gunning their noisemaker so they can be heard 'talking smack.'

Spot Jenny from 4th period english class on the way to school?  'Hells yeah.'  Give her some of that 80 decible bumble bee loving.  BUUZZZZZ  BUUUZZZZ  BUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZ!!!  Maybe Ill even get to second base tonight... awwwwww yeah!  Yo Dawg... lets hit up Mickey D's (Ba da ba ba baaaa, Im lovin' it) Word, now lets go show that Z06 some VTEC POWA!

Friend had a Ford Escort MkI with 1700cc "Kent"; idle was ~1500rpm (still "shaky") but it did run pretty fast with enough rpms :)

Gotta get in on this one.

I pull up to a traffic light and end up beside a Honduh with a huge and I mean huge {covered the entire back glass} NOS sticker. It is the middle of summer and he and I both have our windows down so I asked him just out of curiosity what size shot he is running. The answer I recieved still stupifies me. At first he didn't now know what I was talking about and I got the ever present blank stare of bewilderment. So I break it down to his level..."Hey bruh, how much nawwwws are you spraying?"  He replied " Oh that...I don't spray it I pour it into my gas tank." He uses the NOS Octane booster from Auto Zone of some other chain parts store that has the big display's when you come in the door for all the Ricer accesories. I know it was rude of me to do it but I could not help but laugh in this guys face.
