I just put a new board in my case, and when I went to turn it on for the first time the LED light came on for about half a second then everything shut down. I tried everything to turn it back on but nothing worked. The only thing I noticed wrong with the board is the fact that there are not enough pins to mount the Power LED cable onto, though I doubt that would have any effect. My biggest fear is that I blew the board cause it won't even power up....so some HELP would be appreciated!

the power led doesnt even have to be pluged in ...

i test mb's with a switch and a speaker ussually ...

were did you get the mb ??? sometimes places like new egg or other online outlets will resell a rma'ed part .. (someone elses screw up .. or bad component .)

If its a new mb id would say try to float it
(take out the back panel were the ps2,lan,ect connectors are then slip the antistat plastic bag under it , leaving the screws out .) carefully hook everything up and try to boot it .
listen for the "post beep"

you can also hook up one conponent at a time this way also for troubleshooting

now if the main power cable atx connector is missing a pin then theres something wrong ...

some led light connections have split pins (AE pin space pin )

also double check the jumpers on the board and beshure they are set properly .

Assuming you powered it up...if it shut down that quick only way you fried it would be if you put the heat sink on wrong...you can fry the CPU that quick. It's not powering up because you have a short in the system. The last time that happened to me I'd overdone the "cooling paste" I guess...a bit got out onto the chip...no clue how that would create a short...but used a conection cleaner to get it all off reset the CPU and away she went. I'd do exactly what rosco recommended (after pulling and inspecting CPU)....you dont mention what type of board...alot of the "lower end" boards have stamping problems (ECS for example)...they're not bad boards when (if) they work..but alot of em have shorts out of the box.

Float it 1st.... it should boot ... now if it boots
take and glue the fiber washers to the backside of the board . You may have to leave the back panel out because they sometimes ground out there .(especially it it has those little springy strips on it ) lightly tighten the screws .

out of the 4 Ecs machines ive built I ran across that problem once .(ecs also builds Asus mb's)

i did the washer and used a flat back panel (without the springy's) and its been working fine .Its been my main gammer at home for almost 3 years now and is still working great.

Ive never bought and ecs from best buy .. but ive heard horror storys about them from there .

Cpu's and cooling paste .. I only use a raindrop worth in the center ,lightly push the heatsink down and rock it alittle at the same time then hook the retaining snap . (use artic silver for best performance)
