1.  I am a World War 2 aircraft.
2.  I have been flown by many of the world's air forces.
3.  Many of my type still fly today.
4.  I was rebuilt as a completely new aircraft in the 1960s, and sold as an executive aircraft.

A4?  I'm pretty sure this was the designation.  The plane that gave CAS to ground troops in Vietnam during rescue ops.

C47.  History Channel had a nice spot on it last night, although I don't remember the questions posed here as being answered in the piece, it would not surprise me.

 A-26.

Although to be quite honest when I first saw the "topic" the answer that came right to my mind was "??? A ZIT!" - and in John Belushi's voice.

Think this line is the key:
I was rebuilt as a completely new aircraft in the 1960s, and sold as an executive aircraft.

Ah, too late to answer first, but this is easily the P51 Cavalier.

And yes, it was too easy.

I agree, it has to be the P-51 conversion.
