This is my first post and response to the AH2 that is being develped. As a newbie, who has never flown a real plane, i find the game challenging and difficult and at times down right frustrating. That said,money pays for the creation and upkeep of these online games, and if you make them to difficult for the newbie he will simply not continue to play/pay to support it. I think some of you have raised good points about making it more difficult for the more advanced players. My suggestion to this would be that AH2 think about adding a senior players arena were all functions of the plane were controlled. That way the senior fliers who need more of a challege would get it, while us who just enjoy the game for the oportunity to get some small glimpse into flying and fighting can have fun/frustration while still being able to get the planes airborne. Hi Ric,

While Aces High has its own core of (great) trainers, I've always felt it the general responsibility of newbie familiarization and training fell upon the 'senior members' or veterans of flight sims. A game can offer structure, but the community glues it together and adds so much more. If anyone finds themselves becoming overwhelmed in the complexity of a game, they should not hesitate to ask. Ask anyone anything anytime. Unfortunately, asking in-game quesitons on Channel 1 is not the best place to start asking the basics. The Training Arena and Help and Training forum would probably be the best place to look. Another place to look would be the Trainer look-up or search feature online. Lastly, do a lot of reading. Surf the boards, google for flying tips/techniques, post some messages/questions.

Lastly, no matter how much reading you do, the absolute best thing you can do is plain old trial and error. First hand experience and repitition will help you the most.

Use all the resources available to their fullest extent. And again, if you find yourself frustrated, ask away.

Hey buddy:

Stop in the Combat Theatre sometime and let everyone know you are a new Pilot. Tell them you want to wing up with someone and get some pointers. Someone, probably all of them, will offer to help. The best part is that the arena is usually active enough ot find engagements but never so full that you are constantly being gangbanged/vultched by a hundred guys. You also will have precious few AC to select from, but that will teach you more about flying, not less. Learn to fly inone plane, then pick the next ride.

wrongwayric, i came over to ah when air warroir folded and was used to "relaxed realism," which mean physics were reduced. in a nut shell, it was easy for a newb to hop in a ride and fly.

i recollect flying in training arena with wax, my co at the time with hellgods, and both of us flying sideways catty-wampus, just all over the place. with practice, one gets the hang of it.

the method that worked for me was to fly in the traning arena with a buddy and 'tween the 2 of you, esp if 1 has more experience, you can get it shook out.

if you ever see me in the ta, training arena, give a holler, and i'll help.

Great trainers may be a stretch. When I was learning a couple years ago - I made appointments with "trainers" and they all stood me up. I would later find them in the MA "to busy" to help. The best way to learn this game is to join a squad and ride shotgun with the best sticks. Ask question and forget the trainers.

This is good advice too Wrongway, and if you think Squads are "too gay" so does everyone else, including their members, but squads can be cool and fun and you don't have to pick out curtains with the guys, they are usually happy just to see another guy have fun flying.
