A wartime color photo of 16 Squadron Spitfire FRIXs in pale pink camo for low alt recon work. These are gunned Spit IXs btw, not PR XI like the restored flying pink Spit. Same camo though, and used for under the clouds recce work where they might need to protect themselves more often then a high alt unarmed XI.
Note the underwing invasion ID stripes as this was taken in the fall of 1944 at Melsbrook, near Brussels, Belgium.
The scan doesn't do justice to the 'pinkness' of the Spit IXs in photo btw.
