please remove unremovable tulip markings from 109g6
« on: February 27, 2004, 02:52:28 PM »
they make adding any other skin to the 109 impossible,

please also refrain from using those types of unremovable markings on future planes. it makes the aircraft skinners unable to create skins.

hartmann also only used the tulips a very short period because the enemy recognized them so he removed them.

removing them from the 109g6 model and leaving the 109g6 hartmann scheme on would still be historically accurate.

thanks.

beta16 looks great too :)
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

the unremovable tulip markings are, like you said, unremovable. and they won't change anytime soon...... but I will keep that in mind for all future planes.

Awwww :(

That's really sad to hear, Natedog.

I know you guys are all very busy, but like Citabria said, the tulip marking takes away so manny skinning choices for the G-6 :( I was very much looking forward to seeing the problem fixed..

The glitches in textures, such as in the Hurricanes, can be at least worked around or disguised.. but one can't do anything with the tulip marking :(

If it's not anytime soon, still, it'd be so great if it was fixed..

A bit dissappointed to hear that. The 109g6 was the most numerous variant of all 109s. The variety of paint schemes would be almost endless. With the tulip nose there is very little else that can be done with it in terms of skins.

Beta 16 looks great, the only other thing is the "color" of the rivers. A bit to blue for a river especially in relation to the rerst of the terrain but I am sure the makers can re work the color.

There will be a number of models that will cause skinning problems.  Some like this one may be insurmountable.  Custom skinning wasn't something that we originally built for, so techniques varied to give us what was most efficient at the time.

Right now, we're just trying to get all the plane models converted as quickly as we can.  We don't have the time to address these issues right now.  After we get the new version launched, we'll look at some of the existing problems and also the best way to map the models of new planes.  Even so, I know that we can't provide everything that everybody wants in this area.  Everything's a compromise.

Could it be possible to simply not have this scheme as default?None of the other 109 models have tulips so I cant hee how it could be so hard. What makes the "unremovable"?

It's unremovable because it's part of the model, not the texture. to remove it, I'd have to rebuild the front end of the plane. and re texture it........ Like Pyro said, that's not what we are doing right now. I will get to eventually, but for now...... it will keep the tulip.

what else is a compromise?

and how can we help?
last couple weeks proof players can do nice things with skins
maybe can do same with whole 3d model + UV mapping
many of us have advenced tools and som knowlage

http://www.raf315.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=95
(scroll down pls, i know its 20k polygon plane, but its build for other purpose)
since we live 308 we pushing forward som projects and im sure rest of community can help too

As i propose long time ago, if HTC will like us to help in creating planes(shapes, skins) and focus only on phisics and fine brush, everyone can be happy

consequences on changes in the model file
« Reply #9 on: March 01, 2004, 01:26:06 PM »
I've made some models fpr FS200 and CFS. Unfortunately, what Natedog said, is true. This design-element is part of the model and need a rework on the model source-file. At this stage, any little change on the model-file will cause a completely new texture file etc. In other words, it's a new plane. Given the priorities on AH2 i can understand that. Sad, but the world won't go under by that.

I really would like to provide the community a Swiss skinned 109 (call it a chocolate, cheese or clock fighter :D ) but i cant do it with the G-6.

Maybe, given on the G-6 issue, you AH guys are a bit tollerant on the historical aspekt and allow G-6 skins, as the Swiss one, on a G-10 or G-2.

What so ever Natedog. It was worth to try to stress you on that matter. Keep on with your good work, i appreciate it.

Cheers, airmess

When skinning was 1st enabled in AH2, those of us who've been making skins since AH1 were bitterly disappointed that very, very few of the well-known problems with AH1 skins were fixed.  We'd been reporting these problems for years and had more or less assumed, perhaps by optimistically interpreting some of HTC's early comments about the skin system, that they'd be fixed in AH2.  After all, AH2 was supposed to be a total rewrite from the ground up.  Why wouldn't HTC take the opportunity to fix the skins, especially when they were going to make skinning a feature for everybody, instead of a few map-making geeks?

Oh well, I'm over that now.  What has helped me the most is seeing other people, new to AH skinning, outraged over these same problems.  Welcome to AH skinning :P
