I am really looking forward to seeing this map in the MA. so much effort has been put into making it, so much detail has been added to every island each one sculpted and textured making each one different and unique.
when your in australia you see sparse foliage and lots of dry brown terrain, iwo jima is a sulfurous rock. hawaii is green and tropical, tiny atoll islands surrounded by blue sea, carriers and fleets in stunning new camoflage provided by the cm team, tank towns on every front and a tank town chain in the center island with vehicle bases within driving distance of one another. so many historic islands. the map started off as generic island blobs but then midway was added as 4 plain texture tiles and the historic landmasses went on from there each one even better than the one before it. iwo jima apeared then rabaul then pearl harbor, guadalcanal, new guinea mindanao, luzon the philipines, tinian, siapan, marcus island borneo australia darwin etc etc. the map has the feeling of wide open seas and tropical islands yet provides short travel times similar to small maps.
the more the map evolved the more real islands made there way in replacing those undefined blobs of land.
underneath it all
before any terrain was even made any island added the map started as a pizza pie with 3 slices and 4 circles (1 for each zone) with a set number of bases per zone inside those slices
every base was laid out before the terrain being added to asure that travel times to the fights between every base would be neither too close nor too far. the islands were then roughly formed and the already present airfields and gv fields were adjusted further to give the look of natural placement on the islands while retaining close to thei ideal base spacing. the end result is variety. base spacing varies within set parameters presribed by HTC with their 10+ years of arena experience in what is likely to be excellent air combat fights with beuatiful terrain to fight over.
in short i just can not wait to see this map in play. everything about it seems to be just what i was hoping to acomplish when i set about making it. it actually has surpassed what it was origionally thought out to be because of the historical aspect that has evolved during its creation.
there is just so much to see and so much to battle over. bases will be taken as the fronts are wide open with no bottlenecks but this is good because the next base behind it has even more detail and its own historic touches and battle setups making it a new and unique fight.
god i can't wait. ive got to see this map in the ma and until i do im in purgatory wondering when it will be in the MA, dreadingthe thought that its been shelved and put in the main arenas to never be added pile. i can't stand the suspense
