I firmly agree with Dowd.
When I was a kid a discovering football (asside from deciding at an early age that kicking an inflated pigskin around a grass field until it rolls into a goal at either end was a bloody stupid way to spend 90 minutes) I just couldn't understand why most of my mates would support Manchester......I mean Manchester was 200 miles from where I grew up and we had
two local teams......one of which was in the 1st division at the time (isn't anymore, they suck these days - Oxford Utd).
So if Oxford were playing Manchester.......a large proportion of supporters from Oxford would be supporting Manchester. That just seems totally alien to me, people supporting a team merely because they're seeing a lot of success. I mean what happened to loyalty?
