Something -= I'd Like To See =- (TM)

There, I trademarked that line so no one else can use it

Ok, having played this game for nearly a year now, here's a few little things I think would be cool...

1.  Enemy view.  So that when you are bombing a target and want to see those craters appear, a simple keystroke to see the impending doom.  Perhaps call it the "Gloat" key?

2.  I've watched the History Channel waay way too much.  After seeing innumerable episodes with the bombing of Berlin and other targets, it became very clear to me what we are missing.  Whistling noises when the bombs are dropped.  And, perhaps at the bases being attacked, an air raid warning horn.

3.  Random aircraft anomalies...engines failing, fuel leaks, gear not coming up, etc.

4.  Along these lines, weather...overcast, fog, etc..maybe even snow?

These are just a few ideas, feel free to add your own.  I've got more if folks want to hear them!

I like everything but the gloat key.

It should be as realistic as possible.  If the real WWII pilots did not have it, neither should we.

Aww, I like the gloat key.

See, one of the things I like about the B-17 is that belly turrent, so after I've released the bombs, I jump down there and watch my happy grams mushroom onto its targets.

It would be cool if the explosions from the bombs were a bit more dramatic on the ground, rather than a crater just appearing.  Not even smoke, just a big hole....so, add that to the list...smoking craters!

Oh, and richochet sounds as the guns hit ground targets?

After you drop the bombs, jump out to see the effects? Just don't open the chute too soon.

Cool Ideas I like them I think they would add more realizim to the game. I often wondered why there was no whisleing sound from the bombs droping. Keep watching the History Channel

I believe that all of those whisling noises are added in to meet peoples expectaions that were created by Hollywood.

If you ask a WWII vet I'd be willing to bet money that he'd say there was no whisling noise.

...well we sure can't ask the people that were under those bombs now, can we?

I'm still holding out for the Me-262!

I think I have to agree with LePaul, when I drop bombs. I would like to watch the effect.  Watching the craters form and the shock wave is sort of a nice payment for making the raid.  I just wish that we could watch people scatter as well..

As to if the WWII pilots didn't have it, neither should we...  I would like to point out that external views in general were not available.  And somehow, when they crashed or blew up, I don't think they poped back up in their home field's control tower...

Also, remembering that this is a game, what is the point to putting in Trims at all?  most of us are just getting by with a 2 axis joystick, and maybe a throttle control.  Rudders are tough enough, and adding the extra hastle of trimms just seems a bit much to me.

Well for those To Tell The Truth fans, JDM3 is REALLY Abunabi...so please stand up (no no no, don't go singing Eminem!)

Seriously, this game is progressing nicely.  For years I've hoped games like Novalogic and Spectrum Holobyte (Falcon 3/4) would really get the electronic battlefield rolling.  JANEs said they were going to do something of this sort and came out with USAF and F18, but then saw that flight sims are a very frugal market and require a lot of research & development, not to mention require a very well armed computer.  Not long after, they canned the A-10 game and its unclear if JANEs will do the electronic battlefield.

With that said, AH is a fantastic game and since its cost us all NOTHING to date (well, does girlfriends nagging count?) its a great deal.  I hope they'll consider our suggestions and suprise us with concoctions of their own!

LePaul,
$30.00 US per month is not exactly nothing, especially to people from the poorer countries.  I am perpetually impressed with the devotion some guys show to it by paying a significant chunk of their monthly income for it.

Whistle when bombs were dropped:

This topic was discussed on the bombs-away site for B17-2.
"AC", a board member who flew b17's and flew B29s in raids over Tokyo during WW2, said there is no whistle sound that the crew can hear.
The engines made a lot of noise, and the bombs were too far away to hear. Think about how fast they drop away from the plane, or how much noise the ack made....

Air Raid Siren: would be great, as long as only those close to "the" field can hear it.

Snoopi

Im playing solely on H2H, not the on-line arenas that cost $30 per month.
