Offline Drones
« on: May 26, 2001, 08:47:00 PM »
I've been away from AH for a couple of weeks because of work and was excited to be back the day 1.07 was released.I fired up AH, clicked OFFLINE to test the new a/c and suddenly found I no longer had offline drones to practice my gunnery on!

Is there anyone else having the same problem?I can't see anything in the Readme that refers to offline drones being changed, and all I did was update my 1.064 installation to 1.071 without touching any of the setup variables, so whatever is happening, I don't realise how I could've caused it.It'd certainly be nice to get my shooting eye back in before I jump back into the MA so I can make a slightly lesser fool of myself when I get there ;?) !

It's a known bug. So far four people (myself included) have reported no drones.

What setup do you have, Flak? I'd be interested to know if it is similar to mine.My system is as follows:-

Athlon 1.2Ghz, Abit KT7 m/b using VIA 4in1 v4.31 drivers, 256Mb PC133 SDRAM,SB Live!,GeForce 256DDR 32Mb SGRAM (I've tried various 7.xx and 1x.xx Detonator drivers).

I'm getting a new GeForce 2GTS Pro tomorrow - I'll see if it makes any difference, but I can't see how.Anyhow, I've sent a bug report to HTC, so I guess I'll just have to wait until they can nail down the cause.

Caldwell the only thing we have in common system wise is that we're running patched versions of AH. I did the same thing you did; I downloaded the 1.06 to 1.07 patch and started playing. I don't know if this is a patch only thing, but I suspect it is. I'm going to try a full install of 1.07P1 and see what happens. If I'm right, the 1.06 to 1.07 patch is VERY screwed up. If I'm not, it's a general problem that has to be fixed. Every rookie I talk to, who's first day in AH is online, I tell them to practice on the drones to get their shooting ability up to snuff.

I thought exactly the same thing, Flak. The 1st thing I did was re-install AH 1.071 from scratch using AH1071.exe full install and not the patched version.I'm afraid there were still NO drones.

Btw, I have a dual-boot system (WinMe & Win2k).I normally play AH on WinMe, so I thought it may be something specific with WinMe registry, so I tried a brand new install of AH 1.071 as well as playing the patched version under Win2k.Guess what? No bloody difference. The no drones prob exists for me under Windows 2000 as well - whether I'm using a patched AH or a full install of the latest version.

After being away from AH for 2 weeks, I suspect my gunnery has gone sour.I'd have loved to have got a few hours practicing my gunnery offline before jumping in to the MA.However, by the sounds of it Dale has suffered a family tragedy, so I can't see this bug being fixed in the immediate future. With his situation, I can't see hunting for a bug that only affects a handful of people (that we know of) as a big priority, and that's totally understandable.

Btw, I installed my new GF 2Pro in case it was a video card (or driver) problem, and still no joy.I didn't really expect it would fix my problem, but I was hoping against hope it might.

I checked too, and came to the same conclusion. No drones at all, and all of the bugs present in the patch are present in the full install. On my end at least.

Family tragedy? I haven't heard anything about that. If it's anything like last time I know everyone here will come up to bat for him. Myself included.

Oops - I hope I haven't started some sort of rumour! I was reading a seperate thread on the AH UBB and I read something re; a recent family tragedy.Perhaps the thread was started some time ago and has only recently been continued and I was reading about something that occured weeks or months ago.If so, I apologise!
