most guys I know that own any variation of the .50BMG (don't know any who actually own the barrett,  I have met 6-7 guys who have custom guns turned down from aircraft barrles)  use them almost exclusivly for prarie-dogs.

Prarie dogs explode when struck by super-velocity plastic-cored projectiles fired from small calibered rifles .223 and less. I don't see a .50 even reacting to the body of a small varmint on impact, not to mention the fact that shooting a couple dozen would get mighty expensive.

I still vote for Bill Mahr, or any of the others.

Rosie O'donnel is a runner up

the body basicly vaporises.  If I remember corectly one of the guys said he loads them with 750 grain bronze projectiles and sets up a sandbag rest anywhere from 1000-1400 yds.

the guns I saw where single shot, bolt action.  seemed like a good idea to me as you'd get to rest you shoulder through the longer reloading time.

Terror, those recoils aren't that bad.  It's just the guys firing them are pansies / don't know how to fire a gun.  Except for the last guy.

What's got more muzzle energy, the .50 bmg or the .700 elephant gun in the video? The round must be twice as heavy, but given the .50's high velocity, the overall ft/lb value should be more comperable.

I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

Those recoils are not bad?  Check this table out: Recoil Factor

The hardest recoiling gun I have fired is a 300 Win Mag rifle by Sig Arms.  I have handled firearms since being a child and think of myself as at least "experienced".  After 20 rounds, that rifle left bruises on my shoulder and I could still feel tenderness a week after firing it.  (I admit, 20 rounds was probably excessive though...)

The .577 T-Rex has at least 7 times more recoil than a 300 Win Mag and the 700 Nitro has as much as 20 times the recoil.

If those rifles' recoil is not bad, then I AM a pansie.

I'm still more interested in muzzle energy. If you can get 10,000 ft/lbs from a .50bmg, deriving it more from velocity than from mass, then why injure yourself for those same 10,000 ft/lbs from a lower velocity, higher mass projectile-firing rifle. I assume there is no game on this planet, legal or otherwise that a .50 cannot take... GIven that fact, why not opt for the longer range, better accuracy of a faster-moving round?

Some energy numbers:
577T-Rex

700Nitro

Upwards of 11,000 on 577T-Rex and 14,500 on the 700 nitro....

I think these guns were designed as "last ditch" weapons.  The real thought being to STOP whatever is charging you immediately.  Range is probably less of a factor as much as pure stopping power would be.

13,075 ft-lbs for the .50 bmg

I was surprised, only about 500 fps on the .700--although being more aerodynamic, the rifle round bleeds velocity at a slower rate.

here's the site

Pay special attention to the record holders for muzzle velocity. 5278 fps for a .243?!

Weird, wacky and exciting custom loads

LOL the problem with the 50CAL is you would be lugging aroung a 30-40lb weapon.
Not good for treking thru the bush.

They are a hard target interdiction weapon.
Atleast that what they are supossed to be used for:)

If you want to engage a target with one you set up atleast 1000 meters away because the muzzel blast will give you away if you are any closer.

The Canadiens killed some dudes over in rad land at 2.500+ meters with there 50CALS.
Canada has some dam good snipers.
