I don't care if they say it will hurt the spammers... I think it is purely greed driven.

I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

LOL dang Bodhi we agree on something.
Don't let this become habit.

Yeah I think old Billy boy should spend more time developing some software to stop spammers and less time trying to get into our walletts.

I already pay for e-mail, through isp charges and licensing fees for my operating system (which includes outlook).

this is a really bad idea.  if they are gonna charge for e-mails would they have to keep track of every bit of info you send and recieve?  this would be expensive, and slow down the net I'd think.

So exactly what's to prevent anyone from setting up their own mail server and doing it that way? It's not like it's rocket science.

I agree, this is more for profit than for to help mankind.

I imagine he's talking about a tax.  so even if you set up your own server, you'd still have to collect (or pay from your pocket) and pass on the fee.

unfluff'n believable huh?  remember that lame chainletter from about 7 or 8 years ago about taxing e-mail?  I guess it wasn't as lame as I thought when I laughed and deleted it a 100 times.

I'm split on the issue.

The majority of the email traffic currently out there is spam.
a "pay per email" system would cut down on the network load side of spam.
On the other hand, there's the question of implementation.  For it to work, every internet provider in the world has to subscribe to it.
Then there's the question of who gets the money. Certainly not Bill Gates.
Also, what do we do to prevent spammers from following DDOS hackers and using (thanks to Bill Gates and crew) trojan horses and worms (as they've already started doing) to set up mail servers on innocent third parties and sending uncommanded emails. Even at 1 cent/email, if someone sets up a spamserver zombie, folks could be getting $60,000 email bills.  The spam remains; the problem complicates itself.
There's also the worrisome problem that once we start charging, some MBA is gonna figure out that, original problem be damned, we've got a revenue source here.  Why not make it $1/email?

it cant work...if paying to send mail stopped spam we wouldent get 3 zillion AOL free trial cds...it would merely stop 12 year olds from sending messages saying "bilay leeks u" 101z
