HO damage model
« on: March 06, 2004, 07:53:16 AM »
I have a suggestion -
Make headon damage inversely proportional to numbers-

If there are only 10 bish, and 100 rooks, then the amount of damage caused by a ho pass favours the bish 10-1

I know all about HO being a part of the game, but when you are trying to stem the tides of a country with superior numbers, nothing makes me (or many others) log off as quick as when the enemy dont even have the grace to fight in a sporting manner (ie they headon) even when there are 8 of them and 2 of you...

lol... you cant be serious.

well maybe you are. It takes two to HO/ram... Just get out of the way...

As far as  your compensation for lack of friendlies around... Its nothing a little SA can't fix... Check your clip board. If you see a GIANT RED BLOB heading your way... Um common sence will tell you... "hey im about to be vastly out-numberd..."

Im not saying you aught to run away from a 2 or 3 on one, those can be great fun especially when  you win, but just keep your head up...

Im sorry i dont think this is in any way a good idea. Infact to me, it sounds like a way to make up for someones mistakes they may make in the game.

I like it when people do '0 degree deflection shots' (thats just for the PC nuts:) ) on me, as at least their attacking the end where my guns are pointing.

There's also more than one way to HO, same as their's more than one way to turn fight or bor...boom and zoom.

All that would encourage is more HO's.

Bish, Rook, or Knight, when outnumbered and able to get off scott free in a HO are RAM, would take advantage of it. Thats just human nature.

We would see nothing but Ho's and Rams from the lower numbered country.

I see moron, moron sees me, I shoot at moron, I hit moron, moron shoots back, moron couldn't hit water if he feel outta a boat, moron runs into me, I die, moron gets kill, moron flies away with zero damage from collision.

You are absolutely right.  What's up with this?  Last thing I see is his spinner coming through my windscreen and then I am on my way down, he is on his way home.

Oh, and "just get out of the way"?  I do.  I do my best not to stay in the HO below 300 yards.  I snap off a burst as my sight falls across the target at about 900 to 500 and and then try to break, pull up, push down, kick rudder left/right, whatever.  Sometimes I get in closer, but that is because closing speed is so high.  Regardless, how can a bandit go through my fuselage from spinner to tail-wheel and fly off?  For that matter, any head on collision is going to pretty serious damage to both aircraft.

I also get tired of the damage I receive always being lethal.  I never just loose my engine or my wingtip.  I someone HOs me and we connect, I am going down right then and there.  Of course, once again, the other guy just flies off.

Sucks to be me!:(

In defense of my original post:

Morpheus -  My suggestion does not apply to situations where you are outnumbered in some furball in some part of the map - good SA can fix that - I am talking about when there are only a tiny number of planes defending the last 2 fields when an enemy is close to winning the reset.

In this situation it is highly demotivating to be one of the 10 remaining bish planes flying, desperately fighting on the deck over a mostly capped field, when hey-ho here comes the newbie la7 and headons you, robbing you and your opponents the chance of a decent fight with a hint of the elightening ACM which Arlo posted. I think that the change in model would impose a limited restriction on the team with numbers - Kills are likely to be easy (since you have numbers) but you are going to have to try just a little bit harder since the HO wont work. Further more you have to be a little bit wary of your opponent - Although he is likely slower and lower (doing the desperate defending thing), you better make sure you dont present him a headon.

I personnaly dont think this is as laughable idea as you do -  I think it would add to the gameplay experience, which is why I posted it to this forum.

On of you guys said you could always avoid headons - I diagree: when you are in a defense 3 v 1 and you are going slow, your only chance against the la7 diving in at speed is to (briefly) pass him headon - yes you try to skid/roll etc, but when you are in the "desperate defense" mode I am talking about, you dont have many options for avoiding it.

RTR- yes the country with a low number of planes might take advantage of the headon - yes it is human nature- but I know that even with my limited skills, if I am in the team which has the numbers I can sneak away, regain e, and come back with enough energy/speed to avoid headons.

I am not sure about the difference between getting rammed and getting HO'd, so maybe the rest of the posts are addressing the real problem

thanks

Seems to me the "moron" was the guy who didn't turn to aviod the collision.

If the other guy flew away, he didn't hit you on his FE.

the object of the game is "capturing territory," (ck 1st sentence of 1st page of helpfile under "Gameplay") not fighting per se.

i, also, avoid head-on's pretty regularly and would have no problem if they were turned off.  as it is, i have no problem with it anyway.

Since you know for sure he is newbie in an LA7, just get out of the way and kill him using your superior skills.  It should be easy, he is a newbie, so why complain.  Get the easy kill and continue on to kill more newbies in LA7s.

So, it is OK for you to HO but not for the poor newbie in LA7?

Yes you can.  Don;t forget, he is a newbie, thats  why he is in an LA7.  Avoid it and then kill him.  Also, if I am slow and low in a three on one I tend to die kind of fast any way.  Proly cause I am LA7 newbie and cannot get an HO shot.

Can you say cherry picking?

In conclusion, when you don;t have the option to cherry pick, you want to be the only one that can HO.
