Bober Guns?
« on: August 27, 2000, 08:01:00 PM »
Hi

Do bombers have .50 cals or 20mm ack as defensive guns? The range of the bomber guns doesnt seem too bad but those dont seem like a pair of .50 cals when they hit you from a top turret. It really feels and sounds like the acks around fields.

thanks GRUNHERZ

Oh, I thought this thread was on a new lethal type of fishing tackle.

Grunherz,

They are .50 cal machine guns.  The easiest way I know to test this is comparing the straffing abilities of a b17 and an M16.  Both take out the same target with the same amount of ammunition, (plus or minus 20 rounds).

The pinging noise sounds the same because the default sound of a round striking your airplane is the same for all guns.

HI

So they do hit harder? I was under the impression that range was increased to compensate for lag effects but I wasnt sure if they had more killing power.

As far as I know, they weren't beefed up, other than a range increase.

The guns are .50's and they have a range increase only, they're hitting power is the same.

The range increase is only host-tracking range tho, correct?

Actually there are different sound effects for different guns Raxx. It makes it quite easy to know if you are being hit by 7.62mm/7.9mm, 12.7mm/13mm or cannons (hearing difference between a 20 and 30 mm is more difficult).

This can reveal that it for instance is a 190A5 and not the A8 you have on your six

Yep...effective guns range was increased, also you're getting hit with as many guns as can see you from the buff.  If you're coming in from 5 o'clock you're getting shot at by Rear gun, Left Waist gun, and Top and/or Bottom turrets.

Camel - There is a way to fire from just the gun you are in ( but I forget how   )

For other than testing this is mostly useless

I got that option on my thumb button. I use it quite often actually, when a fighter is moving up on my side, but too far out that I want to waste my ball/top turret ammo. I then just fire with the waist gun alone.
If I 'home in' I can then let go with all guns that can aim at target. More often it will just make the attacker break off tho, but this way he loose some E, and it buys me some more time.
