not bad at all, but I wouldn't go so far as the best since SRV. there's Johnny Lang, and of course Clapton is still around. (and thats just off the top of my head, I might be able to think of a couple more when fully awake)

There is no “best” because the blues is not a contest. Anyone who doesn’t understand that doesn’t understand the blues.

Robert Cray and I graduated from high school together. I used to see him play at keggars and local stuff. IMO, he was better when he was an "up and coming" hungry blues player. His music in recent years has gotten a little commercial. Otherwise a good guitar player.

I don't know why people keep looking for "the next SRV." There ain't gonna be one. Just like there will never be another Albert King, Freddie King or Jimi Hendrix. Blues artists have to stand on their own two feet and not rely on being just like the last guy to make it. Being able to nail the Stevie tone and his licks don't impress me. Take what the others have done before you and put your own spin on it, be original!!! If someone is listed as the next SRV that immediately turns me off.

That being said, I can't say I cared for the guitarist's style that much. It seemed to be a flurry of notes without much passion or feeling, which is what the blues is all about. He needs to say half of what he's trying to with the guitar and actually mean what's coming out.

Very true cougar but you know and I know SRV will be the bench mark for years to come.

Just like he looked to hendrix for imspiration some of us look to him.

But yeah I know what ya mean If you dont feel the music you can never really play the blues.

If you really want to see a guitarist that is closer to SRV than anyone today check out Los Lonely Boys' Henry Garza, especially if you can catch their Austin City Limits show. This guy is so good its going to blow your mind. It will be easy to just dismiss him as another SRV 'wannabee' but look past that and you will see a musician with a lot to offer. The whole band is three brothers from San Angelo and they put on one of the best live shows you will ever see. They combine Blues/Rock/Tejano/Conjunto into a very original sound. Their debut CD is pretty good but to fully appreciate them you have to see them live. You heard it from me first, Los Lonely Boys are the next big thing in Blues and R&B.

There are LOTS of great guitarists since SRV..Go check out your local blues bar...They are out there..They just don't always get signed(or recorded)
