I started the thread regarding Spain and the Election as it's a significant event and of great interest. Shame the debate didn't remain civil and ended up being closed.

Thanks to those that did make constructive and interesting posts.

Cheers,

I found some of those statements an absolute disgrace...

Anyone who thought it a good idea to have a crack at the spanish for being weak willed obviously never saw the millions of spaniards who marched on the streets in defiance of tyranny.

I always stare in disbelief at the ones who loudly extol the virtues of defending freedom at any cost, are then usually the first to denounce anyone who would dare to use their freedoms that don't fit their own ideology .

Anyone who would lambaste the spaniards for using the democratic process to effect change should take a hard look at themsleves.

I would say something, but then I'd get blasted down for being whatever the new term of the day is, so I will say something.

Yup, I agree. Take all the potshots you want if you disagree, you aren't waving the flag you want if you do.

Certainly made me question my participation in both this BBS and AH as a game.

Yep.

Maybe it's time the O club was closed. That, and Ch. 1 are the two worst and most unacceptable facets of AH.

I was truly stunned by some of the comments on that thread, although as usual it was a minority of fools who didn't think matters through before making their views known that caused the problems.

If the locking of topics and suspension of posters were done in a consistant and objective manner things might be better.  I stil wonder how a poster can cut&paste crap of one political leaning while the opposite viewpoint will get a quick slapdown. Or how posters who can be extremely vulgar or personal (a few examples; Grunherz, Yeager, Rude or BigBMAW) are not even on the probation list while others have been banished for the same or less.

And after typing this I wonder why the heck I'm here bothering to reply to some dimwad about lost rights after I've long closed my account......

 bye!

I, personally, hope that the O Club remains open.  We already have enough censorship problems.....

I don't care for Howard Stern's show...  so i don't listen to it...

and if someone here is too offended by what they read that they can't bear it any longer....

please just stop reading and let us make up our own minds as well.....

I do want to add that abuses DO need to be singled out.

And I support the locking of threads that start going in that direction in an effort to keep it somewhat civil here.

Hmmm...  maybe in a way that sounds hypocritical...

OK now?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

It's often said that the life blood of online enterprises is the community they foster.

Looking at this BBS; if it was a bar or social club; I wouldn't go near it.

Similarly I don't use vox. Not because I don't like the idea; but because I object to some foul mouthed teenager screaming obscenities accross my living room every time he didn't get the check 6 call he thinks he's owed.

Enforcing range vox and insisting on an HTML board instead of a configuarable NNTP newsgroup merely so the likes of Ripsnort can post from work are just two of HTC's more unfathomable descisions.

YMMV.

I agree that there are a few that like to act like a horses arse here but I DO think that the majority of the people here are first rate.  I disagree with probably more than half of the viewpoints expressed on certain issues but I enjoy the conversations and hearing the viewpoints.

In any bar or social club you're gonna get some of this.  IMO

Bigots and idiots should have a voice. How else will we know them? It is pretty obvious in threads like the one Gixer started, who has fallen from the evolutionary tree, and who is still climbing.
