The problem would be if you went around proclaiming that it will absolutely be sunny tomorrow...with out a doubt...no chance of cloudiness at all, but the weatherman actually told you that there was a 50% chance of overcast and rain.  Plus you refuse to give the people you are tying to convence the full weather forecast from the weatherman.  And you are trying to convence them that it will be sunny so that they will let you drive their Carrera GT, since they have a rule that it only gets driven on sunny days.

You could consider that perjury (not giving the whole truth) or fraud (intentional perversion of truth for the purpose of obtaining some valuable thing or promise from another).

But also consider this...those guys on Face the Nation had those quotes canned and ready to go.  Why?  How did they know that Rummy would fall into that trap?  Maybe cuz he has been crowing for the past several days that he didn't use the "immediate" word and that got around the press corps?  Now if I were Rummy...I would have had my staff check before making a bold absolute statement like "I never said..."  So, is Rummy less competent than me or did he think he could get away with continuing to spew misinformation forever?

Saddam wasn't much of a threat to world security as much as say, Al Queda, or even Isreal and Palestine.  By removing Saddam from power we may have liberated a nation, heck we even sent a message to some of the world leaders in Syria, Libya, and Iran.  I highly doubt we made much, if any, impression in the minds of terrorists.  All we did was fuel the fire.  I'm not necesarrily against the war on Iraq, but I fail to see the "world is safer place" arguement that gets toted around.
