VFJACKAL,

They redid the Spit V flight model to model a Spit V that had been approved to +16lbs boost as a response to the Fw190.  When the Fw190 was intorduced it outclassed the Spit V so badly that they needed to do something until the Merlin 61 Spitfire could get in service so they raised the boost limit on the Spit V from +12lbs boost to +16lbs boost.

Real men fly Seafires...

You fly one, you got the hair on your back to prove it.

You spend a good deal of time shavin your neck so there isn't all that hair sticking out of your tee shirt.

Some sort of cosmic connection between hair and Seafires.

Anyways,  Spit is a strange plane...   I was talking to shane about this earlier as we were in the DA,  if im in a Spit 5 and i engage a horde,  i tend to live longer in a p-47 D-11 or P-51 forsay.  I guess people know that a spit can turn very good etc,  so they try their hardest to turn just as good.  But if im in a D-11 or P-51 they know this plane sucks in the turning radius,  climb, etc..  so they just take it easy and thats where you bite em in the arse..

It's strange..

Hell yea its a dweeb plane.
Its the only plane in the game where absolutely NO skill whatsoever is required to be any good in it.
You can call Niks. and La7s dweeb planes too but nothing even comes remotely close to the dweebishness of a spit.
Ah1 spits fly more like air warrior RR planes then anything else
Seems to be cured of this fault in AH2
Spit dweebs in AH1 better start taking flying lessons.
cause your in for a rude awakening in AH2

Heh heh.  This thread is proof that it doesn't pay to ask a question and expect a serious answer.

From one who loathes spitfires as dweeb planes:  The Spit 9 is what gives Reginald Mitchell's line its reputation here.  The Spit 5 is not terribly fast and doesn't climb especially well, compared to its younger brother.  It still has the hizookas, and turns better than anything other than a hurri or a zeke, but it takes skill to live long in one because everyone else wants to kill you.  Lev has practically turned it into a cult plane (although you should remember that, had he picked the P40B, he probably could have turned that into a cult plane, too).  Fly it and be proud.

Oldman (stay out of the spit 9, though, unless you're wearing your high heels and mink).

hehe.. I like the 5 the best out of all of them
turns good, but not fast enough to black out too much
good guns, but makes ya work for a good shot
and, your right, Drediock has been shot down too many times by spits:D

No. Im not saying that at all. What I am saying is any clown can be good in a spit. They just dont take much if any skill to fly and get kills in em.
I've seen plenty of folks I know to be not just good pilots but very good pilots in spits. Never ceases to dissapoint me when I do cause I know they are good enough they do not need the crutch of a spit.

maybe they're just having fun...

i've seen plenty of clowns who aren't very good in spits, too...  so it's not totally the plane that's a factor.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
