The Ace Expansion Pack for Forgotten Battles, from the makers of IL-2.

Many of the factors we take for granted in AH(and in doing so, tend to think of it as accurate portrayal of what the real planes might have been), is very different in AEP. Of course, many aspects are also simular, and I don't intend to say which is more or less "realistic".

Let's just say my fantatsies of "reality" matches that of AEP than AH when it comes to Spitfires, damage modelling, and gunnery.

The Spit in the right hands is dangerous--in the wrong hands--lottsa those out there--no better than anything else.

You are totally wrong on the damage it can absorb. The only plane that comes apart easier is the C47.

Err, FB: Aces only has spits from 41 and 42 I believe.

One standard, one clipped wing for each year.  The 42 is the Mk5 with the low alt engine enhancement.

Nope.

AEP has a '41 Mark Vb, '42 MkVb, a clipped wing '43 LF MkVb, and a a clipped wing '44 LF MkVb.

In fact, by Oleg's words, the '41 MarkVb is actually a '42 MkVb but mislabelled, and they intend to correct that and introduce a real '41 MkVb separately, because people were complaining that the performance figures of the current " '41 MkVb", were too high. (ie. they were outclimbing Fw190A-4s)

I find the AEP Spit V pretty close to what we have in Aces High.  Even the aim and damage models don't feel horribly off.  I think its lack of "dweebiness" there stems more from the prevalance of planes that perform relatively better than it in many facets rather than its being neutered by gunnery or damage models.  When you've got 30mm-equipped Ki-84s prancing around, people don't see much of a need to hop in Spit Vs.

I'm starting to realise that the modelling of the Spit V and 109F in WB 2.7x was a lot different to AH. WB for some reason favoured LW planes. The 109F could piss all over the Spit V in WB. Here, it's a much more close run thing.

The only dweebish attribute of the Spit V is those 800 yard shots - total BS, but then other planes can get those too. Seems to me that the AH gunnery is deliberately dumbed down to appeal to the masses.

Cant say its just the spit. I've gotten 700+ shots in a tiffy and 800+ shots in an Fm2 also. Course you can only get em if your opponent is flying nice and level and you fire just above his plane so the bullets drop down onto it. But it can be done.
I only take those shots cause often what will happen is you will get a small ping on the enemy aircraft and alot of times even a  small ping is enough to make him juke and blow his speed and distance advantage

Picked up a Seafire when a rook cap took out my airfield...man that baby can make you cry at low alt. And those .303s and Hispanos!

Take 1 Yak at low alt
Chased with a P51 turning an insane rate of knots on his 6.
Add one seafire with fire in the belly...

Sprinkle P51 liberally with 303 and Hispano rounds across the rear.

What do you get? Mustang Flambé
