Searchlights

Hey it;s just an idea but wouldn't it be good if say targets (citys, factorys, bases etc...) had search lights which followed enemy planes at night. I know you're gonna say theres no point 'cause of the giant red writing above them but
1. It'd make a night time bombing mission much more realistic and interesting (trying to avoid search lights).
2. Have you shot at a lancaster in the dark? you can't see very clearly where the bugger is.

So what's your thoughts?

At the 2003 Con, HT himself said that he had already created searchlights in AH2.  IIRC, however, he'd just done them as an experiement for something else so set them aside to work on more important matters before he'd developed them far enough to track planes.  Apparently, they just waved around randomly.

But everybody oo'd and ahh'd at the Con, so I figure eventually we'll see them.  However, to make that worthwhile, night's got to stop being a joke.  When folks can avoid it by jacking up their vidcard gamma outside the game's gamma control, there's no real point in doing night stuff IMHO.

I still don't really believe this jacking-up-the-gamma myth.  Would someone take a picture of their screen and show how this increases visibility?  It seems to me that increasing your gamma to such an extreme degree would make your entire screen a saturated blob of white and not really help at all with seeing other aircraft.
