How about "Quick Repairs"?
« on: June 27, 2001, 07:28:00 PM »
Well this is neither "realistic", nor has to do anything with any serious faults or something, but I was wondering about if some 'Quick repairs' were possible at the refuel/rearm center. If the damages weren't that serious it might be repaired in like 40 seconds.. and if the damages were more serious, how about 2 minutes till repairs?

I was thinking about this when I landed my plane at a field with FHs knocked out.. I arrived from other field, shot some planes then got my engine oil leaking  :) These probably took hours for mechanics to fix in real life, but since it isn't that serious damage, I thought maybe we could get it to be repaired at the refuel/rearm pad.. Flying a plane all the way for 15 minutes to save a field and I have to land cuz of engine oil.. that was pretty cruel  :D

So I thought of something like this, small 'limbs' falling apart might take a minute.. say one elevator.. or one aileron.. If major components like gears, half a wing, vertical stabs would be damaged, well, that wouldn't be fixed.

Say I lost two ailerons, one elevator, and maybe my hub cannons.. That'd take like 2+1+1 minute = total of 4 minutes to repairs..

This is a faster way instead of flying all the way to destination again, and still there would be major risk you've gotta take since lying on the ground for minutes is dangerous as it is.

I think this might be a non-harming nifty idea that might some more fun to the game  :)

Sounds great, but as an interesting  option, can't exit to hanger while repairs are being done.

To make it more interesting you would have to taxi into a FH to obtain repairs.  Now the hangers have real meaning!!

Good idea, cant tell you how many times I've had to return to base with a damaged Lancaster...one engine smoking, etc...those kinda things.  Adds another realm of reality and maybe more incentive for others to land and repair versus auger and restart

I also think it would be good if we could see little "Smurf" like groudcrew crowding round our plane and if it was engine damage the system telling us to "Shut down the engines" I think that this would send the pucker factor WAY up  :)

Wouldn't we also need to disable the jump to tower and hit N or S and take off?

Nice idea......but shouldn't repairs be made in  or by a hanger (damaged or not)...... taxying to a hanger  may even be time penalty enough.

How about using bomber hangers for repairs to all planes?I'm sure the ground crews would be hiding in there if all the FH's were rubble..I agree also in this being a great idea..

This has been floated around before, but there was no real way of moderating it. Waiting a period of time for repairs could be one option, or we could use perk points to repair parts of your plane. 1 or 2 perks to repair your plane or sections of it, or whatever. Perks can be used for more than just moderating who flies the best planes. The sky is the limit - they're a great idea.

I like the idea of repairs in a hangar.  Just taxi into any intact hangar, stop, and get a message, "repairs will be complete in 60 seconds".

I agree.  This thought has crossed my mind too.  Don't know how many times I've had a great sortie but on my last engagement had an aileron or something hit.  Usually, I land and change planes effectively ending the sortie.  I like the hanger idea.  As it is now, they're just targets to take out and don't really have a purpose.  I also like the idea of using perks to repair.  And, it should take longer than a simple re-arm.  Like Popeye said, at least 60 secs.  There should be some "pain" involved in repairs and if you're field is under attack the pucker factor would go WAY up if you have to sit there for 90 seconds or more.    :)

hi all:

I like the idea of repairing as well, but if you have to taxi to the hanger and your engine is smiking away, you know you will be sitting fust in front of the hanger with a dead engine and no forward momentuim.

and if the repairs must be made in the hanger, can there be a beer cooler, might as well have a cold one well the ground crew fix the wounded bird.

Now if there is a beer cooler, will have to have armed guards to keep the FDBs away.

Why would someone spend a perk on repairs when they can just end the flight and launch a brand new plane?  Wouldn't the only difference be that your next kill in the buffer would say Kill 1 and not Kill x?  oh, and your kills/sortie score would be lower.  I just think spending a perk would discourage repairing.  Perhaps getting a perk point for rearming/repairing would be incentive to try to do so.  Of course you could only gain the perk if you've killed something on the sortie or been damaged by enemy fire on the sortie.  That way you wouldn't have people rolling over to the repair area just to earn a free perk point.  *shrugs*  course I may be way off here.

(edit)  unless you're only meaning spend a perk to get repaired at a field where your respective plane hangars are destroyed.  Then I can see spending a perk there.   :)  I was just applying it to the case where a hangar was available to up from.  my bad if I misunderstood you guys!   :)
