Anyone know why "POW" was painted on the rooftops at this camp? It seems like a bad idea to advertise to the enemy. Is this because of some rule of war?

Not if it's a German P.O.W. camp. Then again ... maybe it's a German munitions factory.

I know if *I* was a P.O.W in Germany ... with bombers bombing anything nearby .... I'd paint it on the roof myself.

p.s. Wouldn't be surprised if the Geneva convention required it.

I think it may have been right at the end of the war and was done to ID it to planes dropping supplies to the POW or former POWs before the ground pounders got there.
