I belong to a local WWII/Korean War Roundtable group that is comprised of about 150 veterans and perhaps 50 younger history buffs like myself. (And its growing fast!) I’ve decided that I want to create a web site for this group, giving each veteran member a biography web page. My question is where to host it. I’m considering hosting the site on one of my home computers or paying for space with a web site hosting company. I’m expecting that this site will have low traffic but could reach past 100 MB in size if these guys submit a lot of pictures.
My questions are:
If I host the site on my non-game machine, will it hose my game connect? (The machines are hubbed together into a cable modem.)
What security and technical concerns should I have in running a web site on a home PC?
If I host the site with a web hosting company, what company do you recommend?
Any other thoughts or advice?
FYI; I built and run my school’s web site (a few hundred pages, and about 300 MB). I have the luxury of working directly on the web server, but have no experience running web sites remotely.
