"Go to hell Yankee' would be a more extreme example of using the term to focus your anger/hatred at a specific group of people.

Personally, when it's unbiased and without the F word preceeding it, or some sort of razzing comment after it, I don't take offense. Some Brit could call me a Yank or Yankee and I'd be indifferent. It's just a familiar term for an American, despite whatever history it may have.

Of course opinions differ. Some, I think, would consider it an insult in any context, especially if the statement has anything to do with baseball.

Will somebody tell me wtf YMMV is?

Right. Okay...so Wetback is okay.
Check.
Yankee is okay.
Check.
Redneck is okay.
Check.
Raghead is not okay...
er, check? Why?

Actually, Rip, in some cases, they're all okay... For example, is it bad for a person to self-apply the term redneck? Or for two buddies calling each other rednecks... Same goes for Wetback and, as demonstrated liberally by the Hip-Hop industry, the 'N' word. Whether you or I think it's okay or not is irrelevant. Only the opinion of the guy being called whatever he's being called can decide that. Chances are, most persians will not like being called Raghead by a non persian, just like most Mexicans will not appreciate wetback from a non-mexican. It's a double standard that we all have to live with, because there's a derogatory/colloquial term for every group of people. Quite often, people outside the group to which the term applies will step in and attack its use as racist... I'm not sure how to handle this. On the one side, it's none of their business, on the other side, they may just be sympathizing with somebody they see as being verbally assaulted. These situations generally just lead to more name-calling.

So, we're back to square one. There is no yes or no answer, I believe.

If you don't like being called a Yank, and somebody who knows that you don't does it anyway, then you can consider it disrespectful.

Can you tell me what YMMV means, now?

Is it because some "Yankees" wear the name with pride?  That they are "in" on the joke?

yankee and redneck and honky are vile and bigoted terms and the only people who should be allowed to use it are white people.

as in two white people saying 'hey honkey... whaa up?"   Anyone else saying it should of course be arrested for a hate crime.

Redskins?
Ragheads?

Whats the difference. Please explain.

Bottom line: If Wetback, Redskin is not racist, then neither is raghead by your (Your as in "collective" from this BBS ) logic.

Back is wet from crossing Rio Grande.

Skin is red due to color.

Head has what appears to be a rag on it.
