Naval Invasion
« on: May 30, 2001, 04:40:00 PM »
I was up earlier this morning (around 1030AM Central Time).

I got on the CV and in a PT boat just as the CV was hit by a bomb and began to sink.

I went toward the shore of A54 and noticed a large number of amphib tanks near the shore.

I believe that the amphibs may have taken that airfield.

I turned green just about the time I got there in the PT.

If that is the case, very nice work, all who participated.

The amphibs add a new dimension to this game.  Hats off to Hitect and all.

Sweet! I've been waiting to take part in an amphib operation but every time I log on the CV's are at least an hour or two away from an enemy base.

I was involved in two amphibious attacks the second day of 1.07.

I did great as a shore bombardment gunner with the cruiser.

Just as we were about to take the bases, a timely arrival of an enemy fleet, a gun duel, and a sinking ship latter our attacks were halted.

Of course, their fleet wasn't much of a fleet anymore either.

Still, how frustrating it was to be on the verge of success, only to be halted by an enemy fleet that just appeared out of the mist.

Now I know how Taffy 3 felt at Letye Gulf in the Phillipeans.

Hans.

Thanks for the responses.

You are correct.  The CV has to be near the targets.  I just happened to arrive at the right moment the other day.

In the Island Scenery, there are more opportunities to use the fleet and all it's resources.

I also have been there when other fleet arrives and spoils the operation.  Guess it would pay to have either aircraft or PT out on a patrol screen to cover you.

Might consider organizing a Naval Squadron.

thanks again.

That would be kewl, a couple folks who liked and dedicated themselves to Naval Ops. Squad? no, Battle Group yes. I can see it now, *Ding* *Ding*, *Ding* *Ding*, "Commander, Uterus Fleet, Arriving"

It's probably 4 sets of dings for a Group commander being he's probably an Admiral, Never could remember that, always had to ask the 'Watch Officer', I loathed 'Quarter Deck' watch while in port. *shudder*

Not a whole battle group.

Maybe a PT Boat Squadron.  Or an Amphib Assult team of tanks.

The Battle Group would be too extensive.  It's hard just to get a squadron together in AH, much less a whole group.

Do think that an Amphibious Assault would make a great scenario in AH.  You certainly have all the ingredients needed.  Fleet, Air Arm, Landing Craft and PT Boats.  Would be fun on a weekly basis.

The next week, advance from territory captured the week before.

Oh well, as time goes by we may see these sort of things.

lol Acid

I finally got a chance to be in an amphib operation last night. Landing an LVT-4 and using that 755 howitzer is sweet   But the defenders launched ju-88's repeatedly at an uwatched CV and sunk it quickly and easily.

I can't wait to particpate in a large battle with good numebrs on both sides.
