No, more like taking the best quarterback out of the Super Bowl because he committed a personal foul.  Curfews are team rules, not the sanctioning body's.

It is a joke that sport Austraila cannot give a buy to a guy like him.

Do you follow swimming? He is like the Michael Jordon Secretariate, Wayne Gretzky all rolled into one of swimming, and he is in his prime. To keep him out of the 400m must make Russia and China and the rest of the former eastern block countries and the US just laugh.

Poor baby........

Have him call Dan O'Brien. 1992, world record holder in the decathlon...in the trials he passed the pole vault until it was at 15'+ and missed all three tries.

O'Brien waited 4 years for his single event. Thorpe will be swimming in the Olympics.

He competed and lost. Thorpe did not even get in the water.

Like I said before, Thorpe will still be swimming in the Olympics, just like Green and Johnson were still able to run after pulling out with injuries and letting Capel run a single event (which he nearly false-started at medal time and threw off his whole race).

The Thorpe-edo will be racing.  He'll just have a teammate on the plane ride to Athens that wouldn't otherwise be going.

Thorpe competed... he was on the starting block and false started.  The start is part of the competition.

I have to wonder how long he pinwheeled before he was overcome.

It was probably a record length of time.

Rules are rules...and thorpe (being a top bloke) admits himself.....

anyhow it is entirely possible that he will still swim the 400, but if he doesn't he'll still go and swim the 200 (at least) which he was swimming in world record time till the point his qualification was assured
