Mass amendment passes
« on: March 30, 2004, 12:10:53 AM »
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/03/29/legislature_gives_final_approval____for_the_year____to_ban_gay_marriage_legalize_civil_unions/

"This amendment attempts to strike a balance between those citizens who want to be heard in defining marriage yet never taking away the rights and benefits of gay and lesbian couples," said Senate Minority Leader Brian Lees, R-East Longmeadow, a co-sponsor."

They get civil unions and the gay community is still not happy, so the bottom line is they are fighting over the word marriage. I think this is a good compromise, imo.

It's not really a word they're fighting over.  The Mass supreme court nailed it - separate but equal doesn't work.  It'll be interesting to watch the process up to the US supreme court.

LOL you said it not me.
I fail to see the connection between gays and people of color.
And women voting where did that come from LOL.
Look Gays are an abomanation to God.
People of color and women are a gift of god like all of his children.

I just dont believe you are born Gay never have never will.

I believe it is a lifestyle choice.
And In America people have that right to live that way If they choose to do so.
But I do not believe that they should be afforded the same rights as a man and woman joined in HOLY matramony.

Of course you feel it's a good for the other people to be treated like second class citizens.

Are men second class citizens because the woman makes the choice to carry a baby or not? Even though it is his child too?

A man lives with his girlfriend and has children, but doesn't have the rights of two gays living together, are they second class too?

They have the same rights in a civil union, so I don't see how they are second class. I have the right to vote, and I believe the word marriage should be defined as a man and a woman. And that is what this amendment does. If it was hurting them in some way, I could understand, but it is written not to take away their rights. I respect how you feel, and I understand, but plz respect how I feel. Maybe someday times will change and the majority will change the amendment. But right now I feel marriage should be defined as man and woman, and it is what I want my kids to be taught. If I am a bigot for it, so be it, maybe I will be forgiven.

Fail to see the connection... it's bigotry, plain and simple.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

Abomination this, holy that... The gays don't care if you're church recognizes their union. It is their government too and they want the same rights afforded to heterosexuals.

If they are wrong in the eyes of god, god will judge them.

"Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. - Luke 6:37
