in response to my rant
« on: March 30, 2004, 06:19:18 PM »
Thanks to Zazen13 for the explanation which was exactly what i needed. The foot in the mouth award in the replies goes to Wilbus! If you re-read that you will see that i did not once use the word cheat!
If i think someone is cheating i will contact the staff over it, that way they can correct me or investigate it.
The reason i worded that the way i did was to hopefully get the response i did from Zazen13, which was an explanation of what it meant. I had asked that question online 5-6 times and got useless answers everytime. I also do not have a photographic memory, so if i did read that in the game manual it may not have regitered as an important thing to remember, as being new to the game scoring really doesn't concern me as much as learning my way around the maps, planes, and other numerous in game functions.
So once again thanks goes to Zazen13 for the explanation much appreciated!!!:aok

Yes you did use the word cheat.

HUH? my multi something rant again
Ok it has happened again. I get into a fight with a p38, Sac4 and i wound his plane bad he runs. Next thing i get jumped by Sac4 #2, i hold him off and check the roster, yep there is a Sac4 listed but no Sac4 #2! Then i notice his rankings, hmmmm, suspicions form! Is there a possible bug being exploiited, is the staff allowing the senior members certain, dare i say, special treatment. This is really starting to annoy myself and a few other of the newer players as if we can only fly one plane at a time, except for bomber formation, then how is this fair to us. WWII produced a lot of advancements, but i do not think cloning was one of them!! I will give him credit for being a good flier, but if he is so perk hungry that he needs to cheat to get perks then he should be banned plain and simple!!
Yes that was what was displayed on the screen when i shot him down Sac4 for the first plane and Sac4 #2 for the second.

Yeap sixxgun you are right, my bust, and my apologies to Wilbus, but if the senior members would respond to the questions being asked by the newer guys instead of the B.S. little remarks or directing them to the help page us newbies would not get so frustrated that we felt the need to post messages like these.
You can tune directly to the other player and communicate the information without annoying the other players on the country channel or channel 1.
The lack of help by the senior memebers here really surprises me as i would think that they would want a player to improve his skills/knowledge base in order for them to be more challenging to play against.
Once again i think the main problem is with the scoring of kills/perks, not sure what would be a good fix for this problem though.
Maybe we need to score kills on the actual skill level of the 2 combatants, I.E. senior member skill level 10 kills newbie skill level 1 he gets 1 point, senior member skill level 10 kill other senior member 10 he gets 10, bonus points awarded for landing after the kill.     LOL i can here the screams of outrage now!!!!

I agree that more of the Vets should help out more and give less BS to new incoming players.

The 1st stop any new player should make (but seldom do) is the training arena.
In the training arena are trainers and a few vet players that help with questions like "how do i start my engine" or "after i jump out how do i open chute"

The CT or main really are not the place to do it. People in these arenas are fighting the war, looking for the furball, or shooting gas cans, what ever way they are having fun.

Asking on open text if someone would like to go to the training or dualing arena to help you, you might get 20 people telling you sure I'll go and help you and you might get 50 people telling you to go f-yourself or the ever popular "hit ALT-F4 for the in game help menu" (dont do it as it will boot you out to desk top).

Blow off the prettythangholes and take someone up on an offer to help.

Shane posted on this thread and I know for a fact he will help almost anybody and is one of the top sticks here.

Wildthing and ROD367th both nice people and top sticks also are more than willing to help people in TA/DA those are just a few that come to mind in this late hour.

I think the biggest reason you got a bad response to your MULTI SOMETHING thread was your accusation that, that player was cheating and that the AH staff shows special treatment or they themselves are gaming the game.

AH staff from my point of view will help all they can and do all they can to squash bugs and cheaters. But, with them all working on AHII what the current game is, is what we got. They still try to take care of some small things, map bugs and the latest was the removal of the TBM because it could cruise at like 600+ MPH above 30K and turn like a zero. Or thats my understanding.

Last and IMO one of the most important things a new player can do is join a squad.
Pick a squad that has good numbers as these have been around a bit longer and can show the new player all the things he needs to know like how to zoom/unzoom map, how to set head positions so you can look around the head rest, set gunsight zoom, why do my kills have numbers after them and even how to turn on the inflight recorder so you can film the suspected cheater and e-mail it to Skuzzy so HTC can deal with it.
A squad can show you a ton of stuff not in the help file.

And at a later date if you decide to leave that squad for another thats cool too. Cant tell you how many people in the last month have joined the 367th FG to learn and then move on. We bump some of our long term members out that are away for a bit and put them back when they get back.

And if you are ever in the MAIN and see my callsign SIX367th on the roster and need help just type that call sign into one of you radios and private me that you need help as I squelch channel 1 as soon as I log in. If I dont answer give me a minute and try again as I might be in a fight or on a mission, and as soon as I can break away I wiil be more than glad to help.

Gotto support Shane here. If you go through the Help and Training forum you'll see lots of posts/replies by Shane there. He does indeed help out new people very much when it comes to ACM and such.

Thanks everyone for the good feedback on this post and hopefully a lot of the newer guys will read it and get some help from it.
Wilbus had some good pointers for any newbie there, i went to the training arena as soon as i came into the game and spent most of the night there, only spent prob 1 hour in the main arena that night. I still go there to try new things especially if i change a setting, nothing worse than turning of your stall limiter in the main arena and becoming part of a hill. LOL
As far as squads go not sure how i feel about them yet, as you pointed out there are a lot of things they can teach and help you improve on, i actually enjoy the challenge of learning new games the hard way. Think it is a decision each player will make when he is ready, some probably as soon as he get's an invite, and some like me after we have gotten as far as we can on our own.
One thing i can pass along to a newbie is if you have any problems with keymapping and keys that do not work send an e-mail to the staff, include the make and model of your keyboard as some are not very compatable with the game. I have a microsoft multimedia keyboard and it is a pain in this game!
