One of our judges blew his brains out when a local news reporter tried to subpoena records of URL's the judge had visited during court hours. The papers were hinting that he liked parimutual wagering but had no real evidence, so they tried to get some under the Sunshine Law. It was a shame the way it happened. The hype over the judge's gambling habit was replaced by the hype of his suicide in a public place. The reporter that was handling the investigation has kept a very low profile ever since. The reporter, and the station, received
a lot of hate mail from viewers for the way they handled the matter.
