How to deal with the arena chaos
« on: May 31, 2001, 05:35:00 AM »
IMO, arena fights are mainly chaotic and the only solution are the missions. The main problem with that is that players do not have time, patience or skill the setup missions. In the other hand, missions are not rewarded and haven't clear goals and times.

A possible solution could be to implement a rudimentary mission generator, setting up factors as planes, goals, maximum duration and mission type (cap, bomb, land strike, etc). Adding also a new rule, perk points only for participants in succesful missions. And adding also two primary scoring factors, success missions flown and failed missions flown. Add also clear messages indicating "mission goal achieved" or "mission goal failed, timeout".

Some examples of goals:
"Prevent base A11 to be taken by enemy during the next 15 mins"
"Take A11 in less than 15 mins"
"CAP over that quadrant for 10 mins"
"Destroy all fuel depots at base A11 in less than 20 mins"

The auto-generator could have four or five missions per country of diferent types actived all the time and synchronize them with other countries missions to ensure big battles will occur.

Of course, better than autogenerator would be to have three to six persons fully dedicated to mission edition all the time and playing AH like a real time wargame.

As a side note, in the last four days I met two new players from Spain, their first comment was just referred to the total absence of coordination and organisation, and they were right

Nice idea.

But I fly knights - it seems whenever I'm online there are missions being run.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

Well... The lack of cooperation moves this great (for me) game more into the position of deathmatch style shoot 'em up instead of simulation.  I agree that more missions and more people really willing to take their part in those missions would be a really cool thingy. I would give my vote for it anytime... So lets just hope that we gonna see more missions up soon

Hmm  been off for a couple of weeks and just got on last nite for a few.   I was gonna say that things are vastly improved.  there was action everywhere for a change.  Not so much hunting around doing nothing.  I think harder field capture has added to the fun.   None of the guys I was with or fighting seemed too worried about the "chaos".

If you dont play AH as a team game, your missing 90% of the fun.  I cannot overstate the boost in fun that is had by flying with a group, with a common goal.  Its especially fun if you can get everyone on Roger Wilco.  Not only is it more fun, but its so much more effective.  5-7 well organized people can take a base in minutes, while I typically see 20+ people in a disorganized cluster pluck spend 2 hours and never get the base.

Do yourself and your country a favor...fly together!

well... there is team and then there is team.. I agree that flying with 1 or more buddies on RW is the best way to enjoy AH but... I have never seen our squad try to capture a field.  If no fighters can come up from the enemy field we move on.   Meeting a like number of planes in the air and prevailing or just having a good fite is what AH is to me and my squadies.   Spending time waiting for and/or flying to, a mission that will result in.... well, making sure there is no fite, is just bassackwards to us.

lazs, for those like you and your squad mates looking for intense and quick combats, better go to HtoH. The MA will be always a slower environment to find a fight and you will save 30$. As far as I can conclude from your post, a MA with just two close fields and a big Spit vs Spit battle is more than enough for you.
