CHProduct Pedals?
« on: April 03, 2004, 07:16:32 PM »
Hi all, I think it's about time I bite the bullet and get myself set up with some rudder pedals.  I was planning on the CH Product Pro Pedals USB since I"ve heard good things about CHProducts in general.  I just had a couple questions before I make my purchase.

Do the pedals need their own USB jack? ie, do I need 2 ports one of the joystick and the other for the pedals, or is there a passthrough feature on the pedals?  If I need 2 ports can I plug the pedals into a USB hub?  The reason I ask is that I once tried plugging my joystick into the hub and got horrible delays to input.  My computer only has USB ports in the back and I currently have my Saitek X36 plugged into one and then the HUB with my peripherals (scanner, speakers, etc.) plugged into the other one. Thanks gents.

The usb rudder is different than the analog,in that the usb just plugs into usb port, and the analog uses a splitter.I've used both, and Ch stuff is great.I'm not sure you can mix Saitek with Ch,maybe you should do a little research.

There is no USB passthrough on the pedals.  I know people use them with X45's with no trouble, but I don't know about the hub.  I used to run my pedals through a USB PCI card though, and that worked fine.

Get them though... they're simply awesome.

I run 3 CH USB controllers and a MS FF2 through a powered hub and a 15' extension with no problems.  Nuther option is to buy a pci USB 2.0 card.  I also use one of these with 4 ports.

i have the ch pedals configured to run with the x45 saitek. The usb pedals plug into a usb port; the saitek plugs into a usb port. There is a very slick utility that comes with the ch pedals -- you set up a profile allows you to combine the saitek and pedals. Takes about 15 minutes to get everything working together.

you can make any stick work with the ch pedals using the ch utility; i have profiles for ms precision pro2 as well as the saitek.

Ahhh thanks for the replies... yeah the hub I have now is unpowered cheapo little $15 gismo or some such.  I heard that powered hubs are better.  Guess I'm gonna have to make a run to Fry's... poor, poor me.  :)

Yes, it requires its own USB port.
It will work well with any joystick in Aces High because it works as a separate controller. In games that only support one controller, like Falcon 4.0, you wont be able to use them.

Get them. Then save to go for an all CH setup, one part at a time (3 parts total, $100 each)
When all your controllers are CH, you will be able to combine them into a single controller, which is neat for older games.
