Im a little confused.  I keep hearing people bang on about Channel 1.  Is it the GREEN or GREY text channel?

Channel 1 = grey text = All

Channel 2 = green text = Country

Channel 3 = purple text = Local / Range

Channel 4 = red text = Squad or maybe mission even

Channel 5 = Voice / Vox

Also these channel can be re arranged in any order you desire. They do not have to be as listed. You can also tune privately to an individual by replacing/deleting/backspacing out the channel number/name and typing in the individuals name, or even type in a different channel number ( any number not referenced above will be Yellow text)

and you can tune your Voice / Vox ( Channel V ) to a different channel as well or leave it on mission or squad.

You use T to talk on channel V and F12 to talk on Local Range.

hmm.....did I leave anything out, that should cover your question....:)

yes you forgot the light blue aqua god-speak text that HTC use, and the slightly darker version that CM's use.

I believe yellow serves two functions:
mission text when you are on a mission
  and
if you've tuned a radio to a numeric channel.  The numeric channel will be yellow.  Numeric channels 100 to 199 are country only and 200 to ?? can be listened to by anyone.

Also pure white text is when someone has tuned your handle directly, ie if I typed /.radio 1 shane .  My "/" text buffer would be in white and I'd be annoying shane directly without bothering anybody else.

just slight corrections to the original post.
