There are decent offerings from third party manufacturers (Sigma, Tokina, Tamron), just make sure they are completely compatible with your camera.
Warning: Because of the reverse engineering some of these manufacturers use, older lenses are not always compatible with newer camera models. The risk one takes when buying aftermarket lenses.
