OK, just want to say you got me.
I started playing AH at the office where I work on weekends. It's the only place I know with a machine that can handle it.
Anyway, being newly single again, I needed some kind of way to enjoy myself. So I started the AH trial thing. I will be ponying up the subscription money from my child-support-depleted checking account.
The reason is not just the excellent work by HTC on the game itself, but the community that comes with it.
There are always exceptions in everything, but the vast majority of people online with this game are the kind of people I like to spend time with. I only get to play on weekends, and this is the first game of its kind that I have played, so I have not developed most of the techiques involved in fighting in the arenas. I have been shot down alot. I don't have many kills under my belt. But when I strap in and take off, I dont hear "there's the rookie, get him! hahahahahaha!" I hear cooperation, cameraderie, and fun. Hell, Taurus45 wished my son a happy b-day. Right before he shot me down again. I did get him once, though.
