Lars Andreas Larsen aka Shetlands Larsen

http://www.shetland-heritage.co.uk/shetlandbus/pages/the_crewmen.htm

"Even before the end of the war Leif Larsen had become a legend and a symbol of the Shetland Bus. When he was appointed a sub-lieutenant in the Norwegian Navy he also became eligible for the Distinguished Service Order, the highest distinction given to a non-British officer. With his eleven distinctions he is the most highly decorated naval officer of the Second World War. At the time, no other man, British or Foreign, had ever received all of these British military honours. The Victoria Cross is only offered to British Nationals"

lol gofaster :D

There is one verified report of a fishingboat getting a russian sub in the net during the cold war. The fella could have let the sub go by cutting the net, but the stubborn fella said *hell no* and didn't cave... His boat was eventually pulled under, but a couple of months ago he got a diploma from the russian northern fleet and the captan of the sub with his complemets and verification of the incident.

dont mess with fishermen...they are nutz :D

Minor nitpick (of the site you're quoting from):

The Victoria Cross was awarded to members of Commonwealth forces, irrespective of their nationality. ie Europeans serving in Commonwealth forces would be eligible, but Europeans serving in their own "free" forces were not.
